Farewell Avis - They "Try it On" Too much!

What is the incentive for car hire companies not to 'try it on' by adding additional charges. Today, after returning the vehicle with a full tank they added the fuel surcharge to my bill. Of course, all apologetic but what really is the incentive for them to be honest? My second rental was in...

    Now that's an airspeed indicator

Although I heard part of the secret "flood the engine, 4 turns backwards, one forward, switches on, two more forward" I was so far only allowed to be the one to add a notch of throttle to make it run smoother. It's all about one's attitude.

    Now that's an airspeed indicator

    Now that's an airspeed indicator

My first open coughpit flight over the weekend. This wing mounted airspeed indicator took a little bit to get the hang of.

Choice Fares - No more free changes > 14 days [Bookings from 1st Sep]

Why do airlines even charge change fees. Like if we are changing a fare 300 days out from Day X to Day X+2 they still charge yet they are really doing nothing as far as arranging that flight and get zero inconvenience.

YVR transit, possible to go the city for brunch?

I'll soon be embarking on a journey from BNE to LAS with a layover at YVR.6.5 hr My flight will arrive at YVR at 06:50 AM, and the LAS flight departs at 1:20 PM. In terms of timing, I have plenty of time to catch a train to the city and enjoy brunch in the Gasworks area. However, I'm unsure...

Sri Lanka 2023-Back in Lucky's Country

Thanks for posting this TR. Certainly contrasts to the south. We travelled with Lucky previously. I can sense that Chicken and Rice might still be a diet staple.

The definitive thread on Qantas IT gripes

From this we know that there are redundant sources of seat data presumably to make app/web responses faster or to reduce network traffic. So which would be the system of truth?

    Cancellation Paterns

There is also 'cancelled' with a days notice and 'cancelled' at the last minute. I think FlightAware will log each as the same 'cancelled' without reference to the actual customer experience on the day. Last August in Bali I was tracking those 787s and regular cancellations/delays. On the day...

Red Energy referral 15,000 QF points [now 7,000 or $100]

Feels like we need an automated round robin allocation for new signups going to the next referral code in the queue

Thanks for this. I'll show them my bank transactions if asked. Once the points had posted for the previous departure I binned the BP. Thanks for the info.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Traveler Status Notification

Just received a rather official email from [email protected] Initially I thought it was a phishing attempt but it is legit. Independently finding the link on the DHS website I entered my details and sure enough as well as displaying all of me entry/exits since 2013 they...

B789 - worst ever Qantas economy long haul Seats

My preferred seat on the 787 and other long haul J is the inside aisle which only then has one person to clamber over the top of me instead of two is I took the outside aisle. I have noticed that when I am in this inner section of the the Dreamliner that I don't get mobile reception on the...

VA Status Based International Lounge Access

Does the International BP allow access to the Domestic lounges in practice. The policy as I read it always seems to mention 'same day domestic boarding pass. For example this page Virgin Australia's airport lounges | Virgin Australia and then later

VA Status Based International Lounge Access

Does VA have an international lounge strategy to deliver lounge access like a real airline? I'm departing BNE on AC as a VA Gold and cannot find any free lounge access. It's a 10am flight, I promise that I just use wifi and a coffee.

Velocity points now worthless in 2023 (extreme stealth devaluation)

Would the management of the VA flyer asset be one of the main considerations in the future float of the airline. I can imagine the only thing that matters to the analysts inside Bain is how the various financial benchmarks are coming together. Liabilities to Partner for future redemption...
