Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Thanks Wozza for your kind words. I'll miss you guys too. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak back occasionally for a meetup or two. But please look me up if you are ever in Hobart. I'll be hitting the wine trails as soon as I get down there, hoping to find some hidden gems. A big thank you to...

Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I hadn't had an opportunity to try this wine until recently. Thankfully Katy has kindly donated a bottle to the cause. Here are my tasting notes: The blackcurrant fruit is still quite fresh. The wine is rich, concentrated and quite smooth, although just a tad too sweet for my tastes. The...

The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

Firstly, welcome back. I was getting ready to send out a search party. Generous? Maybe, but I just call them the way I see them, and tonight to me the squitchy is drinking like a 92 pointer. That's not to say that next time it might be back to 85 points, or who knows what. I don't strive for...

The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

For those of you that are still sitting on some 2012 Squitchy Lane pinot, waiting for it to mellow a little, it might be worthwhile tasting again. I have just opened my second bottle and it has transformed appreciably and become much more accessible. On my initial tasting I rated the wine an 85...

    AFF Sydney Wine Meet Ups

I must admit, I've totally messed up the dates for this event. For some reason I had it in my head that this was on the 29th. I am unable to make that date, as I'm having a farewell party before I depart to relocate to Tasmania. However I am free this Saturday, so I'd love to take you up on the...

    Vinomofo Wine Deals

Mine arrived yesterday, so I thought I'd crack a bottle tonight. It's a nice enough drop, without being exceptional. It is clearly still very young, and probably needs another year to two to start coming together. However Mrs Merlot, absolutely loves it, so take what I have to say with a grain...

Yes, I got it, but I'm not buying at the moment.

    Wozza's 21st (!!) Birthday celebrations - 31Mar17

Sadly, I now don't think I'll be able to make it into Sydney tomorrow evening. For those of you that haven't heard, I'm about to move to Tasmania, and there's just too much going on at the moment, so I don't think I'll be able to squeeze this in. If it's anything like the Monday event it will...

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

At the risk of raining on Wozza’s birthday parade, I wasn’t quite as impressed with the HOG as others at the table. It was a very nice wine, but for me it really was not expressing the quintessential Barossan shiraz characteristics that I was expecting from the wine. In some regards it almost...

    Vinomofo Wine Deals

For those of you with a taste for Hunter Valley Semillon, todays VIM is the 2009 Brokenwood Maxwell Vineyard Semillon. Not a bad drop by all accounts. It should be quite drinkable now but it will reward anyone with the patience to put it away for another decade or so. It's a boom for me...

    Vinomofo Wine Deals

Close, it was actually in the vinomofo thread. Not that it isn't a nice wine, but it's not quite ready for prime time just yet. Here's the link: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/frequent-flyer-wine-lovers/vinomofo-wine-deals-53217-1223.html#post1599182

And here are my tasting notes for the 2016 Twins Cabernet Blend: Like the 2016 shiraz this is also a wine of great power and intensity, the blackcurrant and blackberry fruit barely approachable, needing a good 4 hour decant to come together. Again there is a touch of sweetness on the attack...

    Vinomofo Wine Deals

Here are my tasting notes for the 2016 Twins Shiraz: A difficult wine encompassing many conflicting messages. In the glass it looks almost medium-bodied, but in the mouth the fruit are quite powerful and intense. And despite the warmth of the 2016 Barossan vintage, the wine tastes much more...

Are you sure you didn't get the bottles mixed up? :) I've also had the See Saw recently, and found it to be okay, but nothing more, while I find 2015 Twins Cabernet is just gorgeous, and should only get better. I cracked another bottle just last weekend for the in-laws and they all fell...

    Vinomofo Wine Deals

For those that have enjoyed the Maverick Twins Cabernet and blends over recent years, I can confirm that the current 2016 offering is in fact the a Cabernet Merlot Cabernet Franc blend, not a straight cabernet as advertised. If anyone preferred the blend over the straight cabernet, they may be...

I have the opposite of this 'Oenophobia' and need help!

I'm definitely interested in this Dr Ralph. I've never had the pleasure of tasting a Wendouree, so I'm very keen to expand my horizons.

    AFF Sydney Wine Meet Ups

Hey DrSammyLee, thanks for this. I was planning a tasting event that weekend, but I'm quite keen on exploring more Malbec, so I might see of I can re-schedule and join you if you're going. Cheers, DB

    Looking for :

I'd be included to suggest a Central Otago PG. We enjoyed the Peregrine, which you should be able to find in Australia, or the "2015 Sur Lie" from Chard Farm, which was a real standout, but probably more difficult to find here. But a PG for Italian? Not my cup of tea... Good luck to you...
