    Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals Was this the shiraz or the cab merlot? I opened the shiraz a couple of nights ago, and immediately on opening found the wine a little thin and one-dimensional. So I set it aside for 5-6 hours after which it had really opened up quite nicely. The follow night it...

    Vinomofo Wine Deals

I agree with redbigot and rug. It is not a very exciting wine. It is quite fruity, but without any real power or finesse, and the mid-palate complexity was almost non-existent. It is drinkable, but certainly not worth the asking price.

The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

I know what you mean. It is definitely one of those wines that had me repeatedly going back to the glass to uncover more and more layers. I'm itching to get home tonight and finish the bottle. It will be interesting to see how it has developed overnight. I have ordered the half-case that...

The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

Yes, sorry, I've been a little pre-occupied getting myself relocated to Hobart. But now that I've got a permanent roof over my head I'm good to go. :) Here are my thoughts on the 2016 Dr Edge: I will say at the outset that this is really not my preferred style of Pinot. I usually prefer a...

The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can source some this weekend and report back. EDIT: My local bottle shop had stock, so I've picked one up for tonight. :) Cheers!

    Wine Glasses, Decanters etc

It looks like a very clever design. Is the product actually shipping yet? All I can find are references to its kickstarter and indigogo pages. My only issue is that wine rarely lasts long enough at my place to warrant such a gadget. :)

Good news, I'm platinum now. My leave has been approved and my flights are booked.

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Did you ask where they were hiding that a fortnight ago? :)

Whoops, there I am posting without checking my notes again. I was in fact referring to the '14, not the '13. I'm not sure how the '13 it compares to the '12. On Cellar Tracker the '12 seems to be rated much closer to the '14 than the '13, so I suspect you are correct.

Yes, that's excellent news. It's a BOOM from me. Loved the 2013, but it is a wine that really needs time in the cellar to really shows its best.

The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

For me the standouts were: - Gala Estate 2013 Constable Amos Pinot - Grey Sands 2010 Glengarry Pinot - Craigie Knowe 2015 Pinot - White Rock 2015 Pinot Also, the White Rock 2016 Dornfelder deserves a mention. Whilst it is not a pinot, it is very pinot like, and was a real standout wine...

The Pinot Noir & Grenache Thread

Yes, I tried it at the Tassie Red Wine Weekend a fortnight ago. I was a little underwhelmed by it, especially when tasted against all the other Tassie pinot's on offer. I found the fruit just a little too sweet, which made it taste like a very commercially focused wine. The rest of the wine was...

A big thank you to Buzz and RooFlyer for organising todays lunch. The food and wine were superb, as was the company. It was great to meet you Buzz, along with the other AFF's who attended. Cheers, DB

Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

At $30-40 a bottle it would be a reasonable buy. It wasn't a bad wine, but the quoted price was just ridiculous.

I suspect Mt Difficulty can be a little variable. When we were there late 2016, the 2014 Pinot's were drinking beautifully, especially the Growers Series. I had no problem parting with $100 a bottle for them. However, on return I have tried a few of their other vintages and have been less...

I'd add Valli and Mt Difficulty to that list and it's looking pretty good. By all accounts Quartz Reef is also pretty good, unfortunately they were closed while we were there.
