How should AFF receive new poster "rants"......

I was surprised by some of the reactions to the newbie - who had a serious problem with an airline and was asking for help. I've seen the "they must be hiding something", "there are two sides to the story" type responses on another community (related to cruise lines) and frankly I was...

    Man-spreading

I was impacted by a recent man-spreader on a flight from Canberra to Sydney. The couple (man in the middle seat, wife in the window seat) had their early morning flight cancelled (as often happens on the route with the most cancelled q flights) and they were rebooked onto a slightly later...

Large plane circling above Canberra? Not on flightradar

I saw those but they didn't seem to match the timings (although I guess the sounds could have been affected by the wind)

Large plane circling above Canberra? Not on flightradar

Not sure at all fairbasa - although I have seen some RAAF planes and helicopters on FR24 (and some police planes too). It could be that one as well. I saw there was also an emirati diplomatic plane in Canberra yesterday - perhaps that one left late. We hear lots of planes overhead...

Large plane circling above Canberra? Not on flightradar

Thank you! That would explain it and why it wasn't appearing on flight radar. Cheers

Large plane circling above Canberra? Not on flightradar

lol - seems to have stopped. Usually I can determine the flight using flight radar (even the rescue helicopters which regularly head out from Canberra Hospital over our house to various parts of NSW). This one was a mystery though.

Large plane circling above Canberra? Not on flightradar

There is a plane(s) (large by the sound) going over our central Canberra home every 15 minutes or so tonight. Usually flight radar reveals the plane - but there are no obvious answers this time (not any RAAF planes either). Any clues? Started wondering after the fourth instance.....

    Late go-around at LAX

I've had 3 go rounds - one landing at Hong Kong many years ago and 2 for the same flight from Mel to Hobart (all weather related). With the Hobart flight, the captain said if we couldn't land on the third attempt we would have to divert back to Mel - apparently there was/is(?) a rule about...

    What's on your 'Duck-it' list?

Racism is not the main reason I am avoiding USA for now (but is one). I am not prone to making purchasing decisions on a political basis but I prefer not to contribute my own dollars to the USA economy at the moment particularly when there are so many other great places to go. I know it is a...

    What's on your 'Duck-it' list?

Although we have been many times, love the country and people and plan to go back later, we are not going to the USA for now - just don't want to spend our tourist dollars there at the moment - "trump slump"

Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

Thanks for the response. I'll go that route then. I also wanted to know because I need to explain to a parent and aunt who were about to book J to Europe and always fly QF if possible (she used to be CL now wp) and I am helping her maintain her status. She books through QF (but not on the...

Double Status Credits (book by 5/2/18, fly 12/2/18 to 20/1/19)

Very interesting reading! Thank you. I need just 85 points to retain wp from August 18 so a short trip is on the cards. Plus a voucher or two to use to start the earn for the following membership year. I am assuming that if I want to use the voucher(s) with a TA for an international trip I...

Musing about cruise loyalty programs vs airline and hotel programs

My understanding is that RCI will give a partner and children under 18 who live at the same address equal status - for life. So if one partner is a diamond member their partner and any children under 18 at the same address can become diamond - you may have to call them though. Here is a...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

26 November 2017 - Not sure if it is the correct flight no (QF434) but flight from MEL to SYD was delayed/possibly cancelled because according to announcements in lounge the inbound plane was struck by lightning and needed to undergo checks. When I left the MEL lounge @ 1.00pm the flight was...

    Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF38 Singapore >Melbourne 25 November 2017 cancelled. I've been rebooked on QF 8404 (EK404). This followed an aborted takeoff Finnair 1534 Geneva ->Helsinki where the captain told us he was 'fairly sure' (!!) the issue had been addressed and we went straight back and rejoined the takeoff...

As a kid, I dreamed of flying this as the ultimate indulgence

I realise these are not only 'flight' dreams but... My first experience with OS travel was aged 5 travelling first class Ocean liner from Sydney with my family so my father could take up duty on exchange with the US army in Hawaii for a year. In 1965 people being posted went by sea! My next...

Musing about cruise loyalty programs vs airline and hotel programs

The bit I would be worried about is the 'lifetime' status. I can't see them removing this from existing members but I can see them making it much harder to attain.

Musing about cruise loyalty programs vs airline and hotel programs

Pushka It's also not too hard with RCI - 80 nights at sea gets you to the first useful level (Diamond) for life so 6 or 7 12-14 night cruises. Diamond gets you quite a lot of benefits - priority boarding, a 24 hour lounge with a coffee machine and free drinks every evening, 3 drink vouchers...

Musing about cruise loyalty programs vs airline and hotel programs

We've reached high (but not highest) status on our cruise line of current choice and there are automatic and lifetime reciprocal benefits with the sister companies (Royal Caribbean -> Celebrity, Azamara) which offer different experiences. MSC also offers a status match and there are also...

If points are important to you flying oneworld airline check your subclass.

Good warning for people. I had a TA book my flights to Europe and, as per the rules of my client, they booked the cheapest economy fares for the route. The itinerary did say the booking class which was not upgradeable. I paid an extra $600 for the upgradeable booking class plus the points to...
