Predictive analytics and how big data will drive up airline ticket prices

A fascinating evolution. The multitude of distribution outlets makes it harder (people don't just search on the airlines website) but I'm sure we will start the see differential pricing based on profiles in the future.

    Qantas Code Share Extortion

Is everyone in the same booking? If you are all together in one booking, then your status should apply to everyone else and they should get free seating too. I've not heard of a case where they have differentiated between status within the same booking.

AMEX Centurion Benefits List for 2016

There is still a limit on the Centurion. While they don't necessarily tell you what your limit is, it's no different to the Platinum Charge in that the limit is a function of your spending and repayment history.

Time to Connect Int to Dom at SYD

I agree that 2hrs on separate tickets is not advisable. Why not go via ADL and put the domestic flight with VA on the same ticket as SQ? It will be cheaper than buying it separately (and certainly cheaper than overnighting in SYD) and you're protected for any delays. Not that you'll likely need...

Oneworld Award +++ to Europe Comparison

I noticed when doing a HKG redemption this week that the points required for CX were higher than they were for QF. Taxes lower, but points higher. I hadn't done a redemption on a partner airline for a while so hadn't realised!

Any recent experience with linked SA/QF itinerary - using both VFF and QFF#s?

TAs can do it as we can easily segment associate the FF number. But I don't think the online airline systems are as flexible. So it can definitely be done you just may need to call. Boarding passes will get issued for both in CPT and bags will be checked all the way through.

Cathay Pacific stopover in Hong Kong

It depends in whether 9 hours is the shortest connection that could have been chosen. If there is an earlier flight that you could have taken, then no hotel will be provided. If their schedule is such that you're on the best connection, then it's possible.

Qantas 40% bonus on any transfer

I got one today offering 30℅, with no specific threshold, unlike the recent one where you had to transfer 1,000,000 or more to get the 30℅. Have to admit I thought the same as you... I didn't transfer any on either occasion. Already have too many points in QF that are hard to use, unless I...

    Understanding change of ticket rules

Yes, she is correct. The fare difference is always calculated off the base fare, not total of the base fare and the taxes. When it comes to the taxes, you have to also pay for any new taxes that weren't on the old ticket. Some airlines will refund you taxes that are no longer being used, other...

BA seat selection fee non refundable

BA is amazing in charging so much for seating for non status pax - and I agree that their configuration is such that you definitely want to have a choice. But they've been doing it for years and getting away with it! Not uncommon for a seat selection fee to be non-refundable - QF is the same.
