    General Medical issues thread

Besr wishes to your father and hope he recovers quickly All the anticoagulants carry risks but the things they prevent (strokes, pulmonary emboli and DVTs) are usually worse. My approach to anticoagulants is that they don't cause bleeding in themselves, just make any bleeding worse. Still need...

    AFF Member Stock Discussion

People often liken the stock market to gambling but, unlike the TAB, over time the average investor usually wins. Passive investing which requires almost zero knowledge wins quite comfortably over almost any 10 year time frame. It also means even a pretty ordinary trader (as long as they...

To me these are repeat in a month or two results. People are outside the 'normal' ranges 5% of the time and they return to normal range more often than not

    What cheeses me off

Lots of people have mentally banked the supersized gains over the last year or so. Current position is about average for super growth over last 15 years Given that it's average it may (or may not) fall further

    New Amex statement credits

I went to a couple when same offer ran over Christmas. No giftcards but used the offer about six times pretty smoothly

Heard on the radio that the wine producers are targetting Canada. 80% previously US wines now removed from shelves

Take the example of beef which Trump quoted. Presumably US beef is banned here for biosecurity reasons. But the US can't produce enough beef for domestic consumption so no reason to export to us even if there were Australians wanting New York steaks sourced from New York

I'd be surprised if we levied tariffs on US goods. The last thing any political party wants right now is pressure on domestic inflation

    What cheeses me off

There was much talk about the recent tax cut only being a cup of coffee a week. What didn't get mentioned is that skipping a coffee a week gives you $260 by the end of the year

Like diet coke? (Still a caffeine-delivery system) 😉 There are some who don't function without the grape (or grain)-based depressants

    A bit of humour

There's a classic line from Consultants to trainee surgeons, "I didn't realise you were ambisinistrous"

I'm only seeing 30% on Heineken. Was there a cut-off time?

    Status match with Ba

BA used to be a very good programme for Australians who fly internationally (as long as they could take 4 BA flights a year). Status was (along with QF) one of the easiest to attain, and unlike QF you received full tier points for partner flights. However, the change to spend-based status makes...

Credit Card Offers HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card: Fast-Track to Star Alliance Gold Status

Good list. Can also prepay private health insurance (may save money if get in before premiums go up) and ATO can also be paid via sniip etc. I have read (never done it) that with some insurance companies, if you cancel in the cooling off period, you get a cheque in the post

    London to Edinburgh Road Trip

Europcar used to have a GBP1 offer for oneways that helped them with repositioning cars. Only ad hoc routes and the car could be anything but I used it once and it was fine. I checked the link today and it seems no longer a goer

Pax putting phone on speaker mode throughout flight and ignoring crew requests

In this circumstance, I think crew should be empowered by the airline to say that if they continue to ignore reasonable crew requests, they will not be allowed to fly with the airline again. May hurt the company bottom-line but the threat may be enough (especially if they are outbound)

    1Cover - requiring pre-payment / going hard on pre-existing conditions?

Pure speculation but I think something from the initial Thai medical assessment to suggest a pre-existing condition is most likely. Then again could be a corporate stuff-up

Changing FF programs halfway on single itinerary/PNR

An alternative if it's all too hard to make the change is to remove the number and retroclaim each flight individually If you have QF status, the only thing you can't get by showing the card is extra baggage (though should selected seats before removing)
