    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

Wouldn’t be much point in having its own power supply, if no data was coming in, though perhaps that’s telling in itself. If all of the buses are dead, in an electric jet, then that’s about it. But, the fact that we see the aircraft remaining stable in roll, and making some pitch changes, means...

Because it will be wrong, no matter how long we wait.

    Ask The Pilot

I’m surprised that any pitot heat MEL relief would be available at all. I wonder if it came with any caveats. I know that QF engineers attempted to use a similarly restricted MEL on a domestic flight, when the MEL said “no icing conditions”. They didn’t seem to understand that just because it’s...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

Which is what you'd actually expect. Those looking for the smoking gun are struggling though, because it looks like a dual engine failure, but it's almost impossible to explain how that could happen. I have a theory about aircraft accidents, to the effect that they seem to become stranger, and...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

It’s interesting if true, but I’m not convinced that looking for the smoking gun is a great idea, with such limited information. Nevertheless, a default position of ”shut down” seems inappropriate for anything that flies. Whether that’s really correct, I don’t know.

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

Possibly sounds strange, but the non flying pilot might have had a few seconds when he wasn’t doing anything…in large part because there’s nothing you can really do in this sort of situation. Again, the timing of the call, relative to the aircraft’s position will be relevant. And pilots, can...

Would you fly at a less convenient time to get a nicer plane?

I'll take a less convenient time to get an AB.

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

It's interesting, though his presentation has reached the breathless level. My fear would actually be that they don't. Basically a tree of possibilities with a branch missing. I'm finding it odd that they're going to the conclusion stage, though I have no objection to being given possible...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

I've just watched that all the way through, and I'm disappointed that he comes to the final 'conclusion' that he does. I don't think he has anything to really base it on, and is suffering from the same youtuber race that he mentions at the start. It's reasonable to look at what we can see as...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

That does leave us with another question. I’ve asked, but not gotten a definite answer. We know that the first action in the gear retraction sequence is the repositioning of the gear truck, but I don’t know what the no hydraulics rest position of the truck is. I suspect that it would also be the...

    Brisbane Airbridge strikes again!

There’s very clearly marked positions on the tarmac that the bridge must be parked in before you taxi in. It could be outside of the box, but still not blocking the view.

I don't think they really did that though. Adding reaction time into things is a normal aviation trait. I suspect it was mostly movie drama, as if the real thing wasn't dramatic enough. Intentional misleading by Boeing. Very sad display. Typical. 95% noise, and the occasional gem. Biggest...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

You'd be amazed at how many people, with only the tiniest bit of actual aviation knowledge, think they can judge pilots. I guess the same applies to many other careers/jobs/skills. I was on a crew bus, not long after QF30, and I overheard one CC say to another "It wasn't a real...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

I’ve seen QF’s response to major incidents in the past, RdC’s for example. Information came quickly from the Chief Pilot, as you’d expect. There was total silence from the various CEOs, simply because they don’t know, and are simply SLF as far as the pilots are concerned. So if VH were to pop up...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

What would they investigate? The odds against the multiple failures might be immense, but so were the odds against a random oxygen bottle explosion. And someone wins lotto each week. I’m not hearing anything from my 787 contacts. It’s the same reason I’ve never really liked ETOPS. It’s just a...

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

It was ANA. There's a little information here (ANA Boeing 787 dual engine shutdown upon landing - SamChui.com). It's worth noting that ANA subsequently came out saying there was no engine failure. The trail seems to end there.

    Air India B787 crash Ahmedabad

For pretty obvious reasons, I had no interest in JQ and 787s, but I don't think they have any. Which doesn't sound possible. I really don't know why he's on this at all. As far as I know it's never happened in any operation, and innumerable airliners are operating in hot climates every day.
