Yes you should be able to 'Fly Ahead' on a Freedom fare and as a Velocity (Explore) Gold. If you have plenty of Velocity points and don't mind burning a few, what you could also do is purchase your Freedom fare on a flight that also has Business Reward seats. Then upgrade for 4,900 points.

Out of 8 SQ flights I had recently, 4 posted within 2 days and 4 never posted, but did appear 3 days after retro claim.
