Good idea, one I looked at ages ago actually. So just looked again now. From UA.au, the cheapest eligible flight would be about $4K plus points. Could wait for some kind of sale. Still not that cheap, compared to the other options.

Should I just grab a business seat now and hopefully something else becomes available later and I can change then? Or just get my economy seat and be done with?

Ah, so true. So many ways of looking at the same situation. Maybe I should clarify by amending to "Certainly and massively decreases the value of redeeming frequent flyer miles / points, if used in this time period over the Pacific Ocean."
