Article: Checked Bag Fees Cost US Airlines Millions

A 30 litre backpack is not huge and probably within the limits of the “personal Item” and they didn’t bother with the purse. One of the side effects of these conditions (aside from quick boarding and turnarounds) is IME if you have a small backpack that would fit under the seat, you don’t need...

Article: Checked Bag Fees Cost US Airlines Millions

Wizz Air. Ryanair. Easyjet. Norwegian. Spirit Airlines. Pegasus. Eurowings. Vueling. Take your pick. All have lead in fares that only allow you to carry on something that will fit under the seat. Anything larger you are supposed to pay extra.

Article: Checked Bag Fees Cost US Airlines Millions

The airlines that charge for checked luggage that seem to have fastest boarding are the ones that also charge for carry on (that’s bigger than a medium sized backpack). The likes of Easyjet and Ryanair. What’s more they manage the demand for overhead locker space by increasing prices the...

Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

I'm probably the exception here, but if they timed it that it departed SYD at 9am and arrived in LHR at 8pm (AU winter) or 6pm (AU summer) that would be awesome. Wake up in Sydney, go to bed that night in London. Spend the flight working, napping and/or watching some content then arrive in LHR...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Unless by virtue of status. Solitaire PPS members have access to the F lounge on arrival at SIN.

    What cheeses me off

Agreed I think whilst there’s always been a political/power related motivation to polarisation (“divide and conquer”) I don’t think we’ve ever seen such a strong commercial incentive (here’s looking at you X and Facebook) to drive polarisation like there is now. Only last week I noticed a...

What's your tip(s) for surviving the cesspool of Hotel booking websites?

Interesting thread. At the moment booking sometime hotels for our Norway trip (some nights as close as next week). It’s just a fustercluck out there in booking land. Don’t underestimate the impact of vpn’s. We were looking at an apartment on booking.com. Each country we selected on our VPN...

    Marriott buys Citizen M

Interesting. A sibling to Moxy then. It’s interesting how hotel companies have really transformed from running hotels to just being brand houses.

Business Class - MEL -> SIN

Since I’ve had access to the F lounge I stay there , mainly because it ihas good drinks, food is plated to order (and for some dishes even cooked to order ) and always very very quiet and that’s my thing - for me it’s a huge plus if I’m the only one in the lounge (or maybe the only one of two...

Best avoid Switzerland then 🤣 Many hotels do not have aircon, but some of the better ones at least have pretend cooling that keeps airflow going, even if not that effective on a hot summers day. Likewise with offices.

Does The Airport Lounge Influence Your Choice of Airline/Destination?

Not exactly the same, but if in SIN, entirely possible to do a cheap return to KUL on Jetstar, albeit with a few more logistical challenges than when Jetstar flew out of T1. But still you can do early check in at Jewel, and get 3 hrs in the SIN F lounge after it opens at 3:15pm if taking the...

12 hour layover in Changi - which hotel to pick?

With the speed of immigration these days (automated kiosks) going landside is not a major time waster. Also with 12 hrrs, if you can’t find something to your liking/budget (and I’m sure you can) a 20min taxi ride to a hotel further from the airport (say in town) is also do-able, you’d be at...

    What cheeses me off

Today's little #WCMO is rose coloured view of the past. Noticed on Facebook this predisposition for people to complain about now compared to the past. First is the romantic view of First Class travel, always accompanied by a FA carving up a roast from the trolley. Ignoring the cradle seats...

Foreign airlines could soon fly domestic routes to and from Darwin under a L/NP federal government

Maybe carriers coming from east of Australia could make it work. FJ from NAN-BNE-DRW 🤣 :p . TBH the problem is getting enough traffic on the international sector to/from DRW. You’ve got to sell as many seats on xx_-DRW as you do from DRW-SYD, BNE or MEL to make it work. Maybe a carrier...

Foreign airlines could soon fly domestic routes to and from Darwin under a L/NP federal government

As suggested probably moot. But wonder if it would allow QR, for example to replace ADL with DRW in DOH-MEL-ADL and give them a chance to sell seats on the domestic leg (in coordination with VA which would rather defeat the point). They could easily do a turn to DRW in the 16 hrs they...

Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

It would have taken me longer to compose an email than the length of the call I had to assign a seat. The number I used was +66 2-356-1111 So much easier than back and forth via email. It seems TG don’t outsource to Manila, Sputh Africa, Fiji or India. 🤣 They have Thai staff who seem to...

    Arriving Gatwick, next flight Heathrow

Anything to GLA instead? It’s only an hour or so from Edinburgh as well (by car) and BA actually fly some days from LGW to GLA as well as Easyjet.

Business Class - MEL -> SIN

Traveling on SQ J out of Melbourne I’ve never taken more than 15 mins to checkin, clear security and walk to the lounge. You should get express path printed on your BP (if there is even a queue at that time for security ). But I do tend to avoid the check in open times (because that can see...
