    QANTAS Cyber Incident

The challenge many IT departments and businesses face in this context is what the definition of “retention” is. While it might be easy to delete a value in a field in a database, what about that value in that field in that database from the back up from last night, and the night before, and the...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I don't think people should discount different cultural work practices, expectations and pressures in this instance. Some cultures in some countries do default to a more pressured "submissive" culture - trying to please, trying not to upset, trying to make sure the 1 million other citizens...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

It's often easy to be a part of a mob with pitch forks. In situations like these, I try to remember there was an individual that made a mistake and how it might feel for them. I recall that situation where the radio station made a prank call to a London Hospital where a Royal was admitted...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Yes seems the anecdote I remember someone mentioning to me is more related to Medibank. https://www.upguard.com/blog/what-caused-the-medibank-data-breach I’ve edited my original post. More to the point I was trying to highlight that, regardless of how strong systems are, there are often ways...

Here is QLD, I tend to ignore any numbers from Sydney or Melbourne unless I’m expecting a call 😆

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

“Hacked” or “let in”, I think that is unnecessarily splitting hairs on terms now… malicious access to unauthorised systems gained through malicious means with malicious intent. I’d still call that “hacked”. From what I understand, the [not Optus, possibly Medibank, I don’t know exactly] event...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I remeber years ago, the Qantas Call Centre agents used to ask for your PIN - possibly in occurrences where you were needing assistance to book reward seats or similar. I always remember feeling it was odd, and got the impression it was a bit of a shortcut for the agent to do things using my...

Qatar Airways to acquire 25% of Virgin Australia

I noted in the last week when Singapore Airlines sent out an email imploring “a partnership like no other” with VA and then listed out all the benefits and features of the partnership. I did wonder if it was akin to a politician’s answer, when asked if they have leadership aspirations...

    What's your golden travel rule?

I use a contour memory foam pillow at home and have had a travel size one for many years now. https://pillows.com.au/sleep-away-travel-pillow It easily fits into a domestic size carry-on bag and squashes down easily when necessary. Unfortunately, I can’t deal with firm mattresses anymore -...

    What's your golden travel rule?

I’ve used one of these money belts to store my passport when getting around overseas. https://www.petersofkensington.com.au/travel-leisure/bags-travel-accessories/travel-accessories/korjo-money-belt/?s=206371 I put the passport in a zip lock bag for protection against moisture/sweat and wear...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Oh, that makes sense then... I did a search recently and wondered whether my memory was failing me or whether the points required on a redemption had increased... perhaps my memory is not as based as I thought it was becoming lately...

ExperFlyer beta program - April 2025

They're calling it "slightly more modern" and "mostly unchanged" for the desktop version. It looks similar but the feel is slightly different. None of my Seat Maps have converted properly (I was part of the beta testing, as were some others here.. ExperFlyer beta program - April 2025). I...

ExperFlyer beta program - April 2025

The new version of ExpertFlyer has gone live for the masses. A few bugs/inconveniences I reported during the beta have not been fixed, but I guess they will be prioritising work and rolling out updates in various sprints over time. None of my saved Seat Map queries are working (still).

    Seventy Celebrations, Staycations and Surprises

I read the title as “celebrating 70 times”, not “celebrations for my 70th”, and wondered if 70 parties was too much… but why not! 🍾🎉🥳
