Odd QF J pricing - way cheaper than usual

I just came across some very odd J pricing behaviour on the Qantas website, with no obvious explanation at the moment. Exhibit A: SYD - MEL pricing, 1 person - normal price @ $629 Exhibit B: SYD - MEL pricing, 2 persons same date/time @ $400 per person There are no J sales on that I am...

    Business Class Trip Report

Curious to know how many passengers were in J with you on these sectors...?

    Virgin Australia Fleet Update Thread.

There doesn't seem to be any good evidence of this happening any time soon. There's another thread here which shows a mock-up photo of a E190 1-2...but that's from an ASX presentation in February and the slide which accompanies the picture indicates the cabin is coming in FY13. Don't get me...

Virgin Business Class Lottery - Pay for Business, get Premium Economy! Now 0 for 2.

Re: Rogue Business Service from Virgin Australia And Virgin are surprised that their Business Class is empty? Note to Virgin: Your Business Class is NOT empty because it is too expensive. Qantas charges more and is routinely full. Your Business Class is empty because the product is inconsistent.

    Another double SC promo already?

I got the Virgin double SC offer (already requalified Plat and crediting to wife at present). My daughter (Qantas Plat) got the Qantas double SC offer, but not me. I would have liked to have both airlines offering me double SCs as all my daughter's Qantas travel for the year is already booked so...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions I don't think so. Based on my somewhat limited data points, for the exact same sectors at the same time with Qantas I would expect the Qantas J cabins to be full or near full, and not only are they more expensive than Virgin, they don't...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Surely "Rover froggerADL", "Muffin froggerADL" and "Fido froggerADL" live at home and are under 18?

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions So you're saying you're not prepared to pay $400 extra to go from Y to J return ADL-DRW?

    Lounge access questions

Yep, no problems at all. I'm in the MEL DJ lounge right now having just arrived off a Rex flight with no Virgin booking anywhere near today. Don't need a boarding pass to get through security. Your checked luggage - easy solution is to store it in T2 - there's a luggage storage place on the...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

SCs need never be wasted with family pooling. There are at least 3 seats in the J upgrade bucket on every single Virgin flight. I have used all avenues of getting J upgrades multiple times and never had a problem getting J one way or another.

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions Not everyone would be aware of this - just as I cannot fathom anyone with Qantas using points to upgrade to J when a cheap JASA is available but plenty of people do it. Most people are not as obsessive with their points and SCs as we are -...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

ps Just as an observation, as I do understand that for many the absolute $ value going up is the killer in this argument... This "enhancement" makes Virgin Platinum far and away the best tier to aspire to because of the four free J upgrades plus the 10 points per $ earned, and rather easy to...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Flexi + upgrade has this at $860 + 29800 points (actually 1/2 this at present - so 14900) and you get back 8600 points as Platinum + up to 2560 on the credit card = nett points of 3740 AND you get 120 status credits. $860 + 3740 points burned + 120 status credits earned NOW vs $433 + 13800...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions Right at the moment Virgin J is usually near empty, and with at least 3 upgrade seats available per flight it's not hard to find something. The game may well change in the future, but that's what this forum is for.

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions Just put my money where my mouth is and booked; MEL-OOL BNE-MEL for 3 people as Flexi + upgrade Nett Costs $1419.00 cash burned 3750 points burned 240 status credits earned (1 x double SCs) Since I value points and SCs very highly...

Virgin seem to be getting everything right

I fly lots of varied sectors, but my "bread and butter" is MEL-SYD. There has to be a reason why Qantas is consistently full or near full in J whereas when I fly Virgin in J I am usually on my own on these sectors. I love the positive Virgin staff attitude, but frankly I have had no issues at...

Aiming for Platinum, hoping for Status match

Disagree. It's more like walking into a shop and saying (with proof) "I buy 6 cartons of Pepsi from your competitor next door every month and they give me a 30% discount. If you give me a 30% discount I might try Coke." There are plenty of examples here of status matched flyers that have now...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions But you get 24,000 points back from the spend (as a Platinum - not sure of the return rate for Gold) + 80 status credits All pooled to you - that would be 24,000 points and 320 SCs - not to be sneezed at for $1000. The balance has been...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions Just to modify this to non 1/2 price upgrade rates; $598 + 19,800 points MEL-PER return is the new rate non discounted. As a Plat, you get 5980 points and 80 SCs for this trip, so figuring this in; $598 + 13820 net points + 80 SCs MEL -...

Virgin "enhances" redemptions, changes to points + pay

Re: Very cheap business class points + pay redemptions For MEL-PER I currently get Flexi $299 Upgrade 9900 (divide by 2) - 4950 Return = $598 + 9,900 points PLUS you get SCs at Flexi earn rate and FF points. I can't see how this deal is anything but better.
