    Renting a car in LA

Well, Dave, actually no. Apart from the time differences, I don't want to sit in a hold queue for half an hour or longer. My phone bill might be more than the reservation is worth. Their lack of communication does not make me feel that they will answer their phones in a timely manner. Shades...

    Renting a car in LA

Just in case anyone is still interested, here are the details of the company I usually use for car rentals in the US: Car Hire The only slight problem with this company is that it is quite impossible to contact them to change or cancel a booking. I've sent many emails, faxes and snail-mail...

    Driving in Europe

Another thing to consider with car rental in Europe is that the majors, eg Hertz, Avis, etc, don't usually allow you to take their car into Eastern Europe, eg the Czech republic. The contract's small print usually excludes travelling to such countries, so you should check any deal very...

    Perth International Airport Terminal Evacuated

That's what happens when Little Johnny hires 100,000 more ASIO spooks than the country actually needs. You don't believe me...?

    hotelclub signup offers

I'm a member too, but haven't used them for a while. Got the $50 coupon offer and immediately used it for a stay in TPA in a couple of months time. Worked really well for me!

How many of Virgin Blue's the lounges, have you visited?

One so far, but with my newly acquired Priority Pass, I will no doubt be visiting all of them (starting with CBR in a couple of weeks time).

    Virgin Australia's [Blue's] domestic sale(s)

Yes, that's really good, but I've already bought all my travel requirements for the rest of the year (as I suspect many people have in previous sales). So I wonder how much DJ et Jetstar will really get out of this (OK, there's a window available for later in the year). Happy travelling. ;)

    foreign currency fees - a rip-off!

Just buy CBA TC's in Oz with your gold card. A good exchange rate and no fees. And you can convert them to cash (indeed, they are cash in the US) at many banks in your destination country for no fee either (just don't try Brasil!).

    JetStar Syd - coughet

Re: JetStar Syd - coughet I guess you are aware that you can fly BKK-HKT roundtrip for under $100 all-in on FD. Only an hour each way and nice friendly service. Did it myself a few months ago. No probs at all.

    International Premium Economy seating

Good comments, trooper. And to make cheap Y class travel even more palatabe, I have just purchased a 1 year "Prestige" membership of Priority Pass. You'd be amazed at where they have lounges (well I was). Wish I'd had the pass years ago....

    International Premium Economy seating

Well, my view is quite the opposite, and I am aged over 60. I won’t start buying premium seating until I’m physically unable to handle economy, and that’s not yet. I pay as little as possible for air travel, but in many cases I can upgrade for "free" using earned certificates, etc. When...

How do you track your points

I have learned to my cost that if you don't keep a copy of your ticket (including etickets) UA won't follow up on missing miles, particularly for parner flights, which are the ones that usually go AWOL. So, I now file all my ticket details electronically on my computer. As for boarding...

    Abel: Car rental scam claims

I only ever use one of the majors, eg Hertz (#1 Gold), Avis (Preferred), Budget, Thrifty, Alamo, Dollar, etc, etc. Never had a problem that couldn't be fixed quite easily, and I always take before and after digital photos of each vehicle I rent, for added security. I get a few funny looks, but...
