What I've done a few times, admittedly in Aus Hilton's is either call and speak to the lounge manager when you get there, or visit and ask nicely with a smile. I guess it depends on how long you're staying there, but for the occasional visit, I've never been turned down.

I've previously got them to put the sleeping cover down and sit on that, and I've found some newer mattresses are thicker than older ones.

Club Carlson is fine for your upgrades. and accor plat is ok in some hotels. Just check the benefits as serfty says. you can get gold hilton by paying for it via one of the other US forums . In my opinion that's the best one. Upgrades and free brekky.
