I called, and because I had selected 'Window seat' for both of us, they had us in different rows (but both with window seats...!) She removed those requests and put us back into unallocated but said that many seats will become unblocked at T-48hours. I guess I will just try then.

Just another reason to avoid row 1... Apart from the wank factor I don't know why AFFer's think row 1 is so great. Less legroom, screen further away, less storage bins etc.

To be fair, it's not like the people going to Bali are really important enough for a nice plane.

On the new A330's, row 2 wins hands down for me due to the extra storage bins and the TV screen feels as though it is in a better position for me. All personal preference but I find row 1 annoying when you have nowhere to store all your bits and pieces.

Since I have made WP I have never been assigned any seat other than 3A/F (better than exit row, bar live 2 air on the older planes).

The side definitely angles in, you can see this by looking at the edge of the floor wall next to 2A or 2K, the angle is quite noticeable. Not sure if they have offset the seats to account but I suspect not.

I prefer row 2+ as you get more storage bins and more legroom due to the cut out underneath row 1. Also the TV screens seem a bit better/closer/more private compared to row 1.

It's not really a negative because people shouldn't be expecting anything over what is advertised or specified as a benefit. Thats sort of like saying it is a negative when you don't receive an op-up. It's more a neutral. As long as you get what you pay for that's all they should be expected...
