    Amex and EA agreement ending

Member Advantage (Professionals Australia/APESMA and various other orgs) is still showing Gold, Plat Edge and Plat Charge available, "Apply by 31 August 2017" (or maybe not)? As long as my standalone Plat Reserve doesn't get enhanced, I'm going to hold on to it for as long as possible..

May 2017 Velocity 15% Transfer Bonus

Some of us (myself included) got a targeted promo last month with the same bonuses.. I (mostly) cleaned out my ANZ which I am just about to cancel, now I can get the rest of the points that didn't make it in time for that one :)

Access to Etihad Chauffer service when booked with a VA flight #

I thought they cut the chaffeur service for award tickets? I was able to do it a few months ago (on VA J award) but my award was booked before the changes. Can't hurt to try - plug the EY PNR (listed on the Virgin award eticket) into the booking website.

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

No fee if its a auto/direct debit. You can use AMEX via PayPal for ad-hoc payments as well.

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

If its a low value item, grab a JB Gift card from a retailer that does take AMEX and then use that at JB. You can scoop up some extra points in whatever secondary rewards program (Flybuys/WOW/etc) at the same time.

EY J award flights following changes

Agree. Had a J trip with EY recently (booked a few months before the enhancement), AUH feels very rough in comparison to SIN. Maybe in a couple of years with the new terminal opens it will be better, but not now. I am going to try and shoot for SQ on the next one. Might fall back to EY if I'm...

What do these staff sackings translate to?

Newsflash: James Hogan left Etihad Airways This coming after the turmoil at Air Berlin and Alitalia this...

    Have VA 'enhanced' Agoda? [Yes!]

Re: Have VA 'enhanced' Agoda? Doh! I was about to book a couple of rooms for an upcoming trip, my only gripe was around missing inventory on the Virgin Agoda link. The new one still shows a status benefit, all is not lost...

    Singapore Airlines Delays/Cancellations

Thought I'd chip in with my recent experience given Melburnian1's comment about reports on delay/cancellations in the thank you thread. My outbound SQ238 on Monday the 7th was pushed back to a 12:00 departure due to the late inbound sector, causing a missed connection with the follow on SQ836...

    Agoda - ineligible booking

Another member has run into this, but they were booking someone unrelated http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/virgin-australia-velocity/warning-agoda-74664-3.html#post1442190 Under the latest T&Cs it is now under section 10:

VA status showing on SQ boarding pass / itinerary

All my trips with VA status (even back on Silver) have had PTNR STATUS GOLD (or SILVER) on the boarding pass. All were booked via singaporeair.com with the VA # in the pax details. But I always hand over my card at check-in with my passport as well. I do have an upcoming trip that was booked...

    AMEX not accepted or surcharge

I think thats actually an issue with the CBA machine, one of the cafes I go to has one, tap doesn't work with AMEX but chip does. I just tell the staff to stick it in the chip input and its all good.

    Where to with status

I looked at SQ directly (given almost all my OS flights are with them), but it turns out the threshold to get and maintain gold on VA is significantly lower - on SQ you need 50K qualifying miles by distance (multiplied by fare class), whereas the status credit mechanism on VA nicely rounds up...

How many plane types have you been on?

Short list for me: E190 DC9 737 757 777 (All variants) A320 A330 A340 A380 Possibly the DC-10 or MD-11 when I was younger. DC9 (on Cebu Pacific, when it was an upstart 12 yrs ago) is definitely my favourite. 1st row was empty so I just hopped in :) Was a fun ride.

Heads up: 2% CC surcharge applies. Still, $40 off $100 is quite good.

HNA Takes A Stake - New Asian Routes to Follow?

I think they might have their hands full with their other problem child, Air Berlin. airberlin must aim for a profit in 2016 after eighth straight operating loss in 2015 and 1Q2016 loss | CAPA - Centre for Aviation

How can a credit card be hacked on the day it was dispatched ?

Keyed in via a physical EFTPOS terminal? I think they require just the number for a 'Card not present' transaction? There is an algorithm used to determine if a number represents a valid card (Luhn Algorithm), given a bunch of random numbers you can determine which ones could work. The...

Air NZ looking to sell some/all of stake in VA

Interesting to note (according to the AFR) that VA is issuing new shares to HNA, they are not buying the NZ stake - its still for sale. Virgin raises $159m in placement to HNA Group | afr.com
