Arriving in the US without first night accommodation booked

Thanks for the driving concern, you’re correct that it would worry me if it was me driving, but we’ll be flying business (so should be reasonably well rested) and FIL has driven in the US many times before so he’s very comfortable. However as we’ll be seeing how he feels on arrival, we won’t...

Arriving in the US without first night accommodation booked

Apologies for what is likely a naive question. I’m just arranging a trip to the US which will start with a road trip. Unlike every other time I’ve been to the US, where all accommodation has been pre-booked, this time we’re not planning on booking until we arrive or get near places because...

    VA Passenger of Size treatment

I’m a COS. I need an extender belt when flying. However I’m “lucky” that I don’t spill into other seats, can get the arm rest down etc. Flying in economy is agony for me as I am acutely aware of how I’m seen on a plane and in case I do spill slightly over I will fold into myself as much as...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

This afternoon BNE-ADL This was roasted cauliflower and zucchini salad with tahini, we were asked if we wanted to add chicken, which we did. The other option was roasted duck leg on sweet potato mash.

What has changed at ADL security

It was being done landside on Monday when I flew in the afternoon. They used the two outside lanes to pull people from the queue. It was all horribly confused, and caused a lot of congestion at the two gates that were doing “normal” security as those people were awkwardly slotted in. So when...

How do you book your travel?

Domestic is all myself, international I use a travel agent except for when I want inventory or a discount that’s available directly from the hotel that she can’t access. My TA is great at working with me and doesn’t have an issue with me researching other options or giving suggestions. I’ve...

    Are you in the 1%?

I was 3% but it congratulated me on my two visits this year to somewhere I’ve flown to on VA three times alone in two months, so don’t exactly trust the math.

Aussies ‘treated like criminals’ at US border

I was expecting heavier scrutiny when husband and I travelled to the US in May, but it was the quickest and easiest we’ve ever gotten through LAX. All my experiences with the TSA (had quite a few internal flights) were much more polite and respectful than I expected too, even when they did a...

USA tourism down with Trump Slump attributed to travel ban

We're heading there in May. The trip was booked well before Trump's election and there's a little part of me that thinks I may not have gone ahead had I known. I'm slightly concerned that immigration and then domestic TSA processes will be more problematic than previous trips, but truth is I'm...

    Velocity/Virgin websites are RUBBISH

I have a trip coming up that involves domestic Australian and international flights to the US and back, with internal US flights via Delta all on the one reservation. A change had to be made to my Delta flights, yet months later Velocity (when it's not telling me my membership number is wrong)...

Will you use the new ULH PER-LHR?

Not for me. As I'm in Adelaide, I'd rather have the stop closer to the middle of the journey.

    Domestic flights in the US

I like Delta and Virgin, well I like them better than AA and United. For me Delta has the extra benefit of being linked to my Velocity account.

    Who's your TA?

I use one of the Travel Associates branches in SA. They're a branch off Flight Centre. In my case I use one particular agent, who was recommended to me.

Fly OZ to USA in Comfort – No F or J Class

How about the new Virgin economy space seats? I know someone who flew a refurbished VA plane and said there was clearly more leg room. https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/about-us/media/2016/VA-Launch-Economy-Space-plus/

Virgin IT issues - had to buy another ticket for flight i'd checked in.

Interesting, in two separate years (2012 and 2016) both my husband and I, and my parents had problems checking in (and our bags went missing) from ADL-SYD-LAX-JFK flying VA internationally and Delta domestically. I thought they were both just glitches. Maybe not. Which slightly worries me as...

    Bay of Islands NZ

We spent a few nights in the Bay of Islands in February. Paihia is a great spot to stay as it's easy to travel to other areas such as Russell, Kerikeri and Waitangi. Don't really have an accommodation suggesting as where we stayed was nice but was just a hotel room.

Hotel Recommendations in Nashville and Dallas

Planning a trip to the US next year that includes visits to Nashville and Dallas among other places. I was wondering if anyone had any hotel or neighbourhood recommendations for either place? Budget isn't really an issue, more concerned with comfort and locations near restaurants etc. Thanks!
