Zen travelling - why it makes so much sense.

As someone with an anxiety disorder and an over planner, the idea of zen travelling is a complete fantasy, however the simple act of being nice to people isn’t. I remember one day of travel that involved missed connections, weather delays, other plane delays, lost accommodation booking at...

    Windowless cabin proposal for Emirates

It may sound silly but I really love the sneak peeks of looking out my window and seeing a certain mountain range or river, and/or playing guess the town. That little glimpse is one of the things I most love, proof that I’m actually flying over <insert here>, and I can see the real version of...

    Successful CSM requests

Is this something that doesn’t happen in Virgin? At least domestically? Have been WP on and off for a few years and cannot recall anytime on a domestic flight (usually Adl-Bne) that I’ve had any acknowledgement than the standard “Welcome on board Ralphie” as I board, when I’ve been seated in Y...

Poll: Flying daytime J vs Nighttime J

I sleep pretty easily, and even in economy I can get a few hours of sleep (not great sleep but sleep). I prefer flying J in the day, as I like to take advantage of the service and space while I’m awake.

What is the attraction of lounges?

I debated this point when I wandered into a very crowded QANTAS lounge in Brisbane last Friday. There was no hot or meal like food out, so it was a ham and cheese sandwich (no chance of getting near a toasting machine) and as I don’t drink alcohol, just a small glass of coke, that I had to...

BNE Int. needs to buck up IMHO

I only have one experience of landing in the Brisbane international terminal, but I’d agree. We found it hard to navigate, in that it wasn’t intuitive where to head to catch the transfer bus etc.

    Onboard Greetings

I think i’m in my third year of WP with VA (two consecutively, the other a couple of years ago, and have been SG in between for a number of years) and cannot remember ever getting a personal greeting on a domestic leg when in economy.

    Security Screening Fun in Perth

Same thing happened in Brisbane yesterday, and has happened in Adelaide earlier. I appreciate that it’s very likely there’d not be a positive reading, but as it can happen, it’d be extremely frustrating to have to be swabbed twice (and wait for both swabbing processes, if you were person 3 etc).

What happened to the in-flight entertainment? [content]

It’s awful, I prefer tv shows for most domestic flights, and the choices have been very limited. Not only are there less choices than before, but as mentioned, they are episode 6-9 of season 7 which is useless. This said, I find Qantas equally poor. I just load up my iPad now when travelling...

Flying Business, Wanting to Eat Economy

In this case, it’s VA. It’s my father in law and husband who I’m wondering about. Mr Ralphie usually finds something to eat, well to push around on his plate, but he keeps commenting how he much prefers the simplicity of the lower cabin menus. Completely understandable that it’s last dibs...

Flying Business, Wanting to Eat Economy

This is mostly a curiousity question, prompted by me being soon to fly to LAX and back with some fussy eaters (adults). If you don’t care for any of the mains in the Business Class Menu, can you ask for a meal from a lower cabin class? If yes, does anyone have any experience in doing so?

I hate Sydney (airport security) international

I had the same reservations last year, had never had a particular problem in previous visits, but thought with current climates, arriving in immigration there and then the TSA experiences could be heightened. It was actually the easiest and most polite experience I’ve had while travelling over...

I hate Sydney (airport security) international

I hate transiting through Sydney. It’s always a painful experience either going out or coming in. We’ve started flying to Syd the night before rather than connect in one day when we head OS, so we can have longer to get through immigration/security, and will change trip arrangements to ensure...

Jump queue at X-ray? [others not ready, you are]

I’m normally very respectful of a queue, but if I have everything sorted, and there’s a clear gap towards the scanners, then absolutely I am jumping forward, while people fuss through stuff. As pointed out above, as a woman, I’ve always got a bag with me so everything can be easily slipped in...

Toronto collision: passengers insist on taking carryons

True, but if I had it already in my hand, is it any safer to just drop it in an aisle etc? I’m imagining in the split second moment where I go into my own panic. I’d love to think I’d be sensible and just drop the bag neatly on my seat, or can leave it at my feet, but I can also imagine...

Toronto collision: passengers insist on taking carryons

If I was being completely honest, I’d probably try and take my handbag off, but I imagine not because of any other reason than I’d forget I shouldn’t. I imagine that my instincts would tell me to grab the bag that’s down by my feet (and I’d probably have to move to move my feet out anyway) and...

1 SC short of renewing gold

I was comped the 5sc difference I needed to earn platinum this year, let alone maintaining status. It was even before my renew date. (It was just after a flight which I expected would give me enough credits but I assumed the wrong fare bucket and fell 5 short.) (I did have an upcoming trip...
