I had a similar problem, and ended up staying at the Patong Paragon in August. It is not in the centre of town (about 10 minutes walk), but the rooms are large, with the extra bed put in a small alcove in the room.

LY use a mix of 744, 767 and 777 on their Asian routes. The 767s are shabby, but the 777s are fine. Another route is Royal Jordanian via Amman.

Does anyone think this might be a precursor to *Alliance membership.

I unsuccessfully tried to use complimentary passes in the Terminal 4 lounge a week ago. Although it is jointly operated lounge (AA/QF), they still wouldn't let me in. I didn't have the energy to argue.
