    Qantas Frequent Flyer Program Changes

Ahhhh, the amber or black beer is a delight. :D Has anybody tasted a 'Blonde Mac' or 'Black Mac' on tap out of Nelson in NZ? It can be had at a B & B called the 'Honest Lawyer'. The only thing is... you have to fly NZ Link to get there. I suppose you can always drive from CHC though.

Cancelled Amex Card - Can you still access reward points?

I think you should give Customer Service a ring. (txfr to Delhi). I cancelled my rewards program because of the $89 fee they were going to slug me for having two cards. (I also cancelled the AMEX Blue as well). I received a letter two weeks later saying the 4000 odd points I had could be used...

    List For Waitlist

Get Lifetime Gold and no more fees. In fact I haven't paid any fees for the last 5 years due to (I suspect) the Platinum status. :D In any case I don't ask in case someone reckons I should be paying.

What class codes does Qantas count as 'Full Economy'

It's funny when you're nearing the deadline to retain your status and you try to think of what flights you could do to make up SC's. All of a sudden your there and thinking "ye gods, I made it easily". This year I requal'd for Plat in March when it was due for a June expiry & then went and...

    United Airline's Final Push?

Look at the following promo from United and see if you can tell me where Seating Area 4 is, seeing as Area 3 has the last 10 rows? :? UA wrote: Easier Boarding Process In response to your comments, and in an effort to improve our service, we've created a new boarding process for all...

    Recent Qantas Incident...

Did you know there were people walking out the door via the bridge when they pulled the chutes. No wonder people had their gear when they went out on the chutes as they were already prepared to go out the door. That's why the slides failed when that carried gear cut the slides and caused injury...

landing 'incident' - keep us informed please

I was on the first ever commercial B744 ER flight SYD-LAX and we had to do two aborted landings with the third try successfully achieved. No. 1 was nil visibility 30 metres before touchdown, No. 2 was a failed ILS transmitter on the ground and No. 3 resulted in the weather clearing within the...

    Should I feel Guilty?

I flew BNE-SYD and I took all the offered comforts. I had heaps of room in front of me :) but it was still 3 across :( The a/c was as full as a goog and I had a quiet chuckle to myself when they said the aircraft was pressurized for our comfort. I read a book the whole way down but you're...

    Entry into USA

Re: TSA Website Gary, we as the flying public have no trouble with our memory. It's just that the USA went from the "security joke" to the "security nightmare". Other countries already had a semblance of security that tended to reassure most of us in the industry. However, travelling the US...

    Should I feel Guilty?

I'm sitting back enjoying my second crownie in the BNE QC waiting to catch a Vermin Blue flight. Now, maybe I can guess what you're thinking but it's completely innocent. One of my bosses was meant to come and visit and fly VB but cancelled the visit. VB wouldn't refund to QBT and now I have to...

    Using upgrade credits

Re: it worked Rormad, you're correct. It isn't right. In fact you should get points & credits for the flight, unless it was a rewards flight in the first place.

Latest UA offer - Buy 1 (business or first) get 1 coach free

I have a list of aircraft and Airlines that I prefer not to travel with UA as one of them. How can you really trust an airline's maintenance practices when they've cut back so much? With that said I put Sing. Air. in the same list where they only get new aircraft and none of their LAMEs have...

    City Guides Anyone ?

Icemann, the Starwood Preferred Guest program gives you 1 free hour on their Business PC's. I'm not sure if it's available everywhere but I know the Sheraton runs it most places I go. I've never regretted making Starwood & Qantas my preference as I'm happily Platinum in both (lifetime gold with...

    City Guides Anyone ?

Icemann, I think you have an excellent idea. I have a couple of favourite restaurants in the places I've visited but I'm always on the lookout for more for the individual (on your own) traveller. Have you ever eaten at The George Hotel in Christchurch? I had the 'degustation' (I think that is...

    Citibank Platinum - intro needed

You may or may not be aware of this fact in qualifying... I was able to get my Plat qualification with the fact that my salary was supplemented with additionals such as company vehicle, superannuation & health cover. This added another 20K to the equation and got me over the 100K line. :P

    Using upgrade credits

Lindsay, you've got it in one. I used my UC's for MEL-BNE or similar type flights but with the onset of the latest changes and my company (based in USA) preferences for coach travel I'll be using them for the INT upgrades or MEL-PER type trips instead.

    Entry into USA

Jeez Icemann I thought all the talk on FT was a little overdone about the luggage locks having to be left unlocked and was for airports other than LAX. Are we to believe that our luggage is now safe from pilferers because of the security checks the TSA has on its own members for employment? I...

    Ever missed a flight unintentionally?

As far as I know (which isn't much), the FF & SC points are not actually credited until after your Boarding Pass is swiped for boarding. I've had everything credited by the time I was due to catch a connecting flight on the same trip but different leg.
