BKK-SYD in J. Qantas or Emirates?

Thanks to all for replies. It looks like the key differences are: * EK operated flight "may" be more comfortable with a B777, possibly a lie-flat bed. And better service. * QF operated flight will allow access to BA lounge in BKK - is the BA lounge much better than the QF lounge in BKK? I tried...

BKK-SYD in J. Qantas or Emirates?

Thanks! Yes, I had thought about that, but I'm pretty close to the train in Bangkok and detest Bangkok traffic with a passion (especially the afternoon rush hour gridlock!) so I was planning to take the airport express anyway - hence didn't consider it too much as a factor. Any major differences...

BKK-SYD in J. Qantas or Emirates?

I'm a WP planning a J trip SYD-BKK. SYD-BKK leg, QF 23 is works best for the time. For the BKK-SYD leg, I'm considering between the Emirates operated QF8418 and the Qantas operated QF24. The price is exactly the same. I assume lounge access/points and SC credit is identical for both flights...

    2400 SC - which award?

G'day all, I'll soon be hitting the 2,400 SC mark. I've looked at the available benefits, and did some calculations: * Gold card to someone - likely your significant other, partner etc. would travel with you anyway so may not get full benefit. * 3 limo service to home - conservatively assuming...

Westpac not awarding Earth/Qantas bonus points

I received mine as well... with a 2 month delay, after several unanswered emails and several calls direct to their customer complaints department. No apology or a nice gesture. I'm glad they rectified it but it left a bit of a sour taste in the mouth...

    Are 25,000 QFF points worth $362.50 ?

If anybody paid me AU$362.50 for 25,000 of my Qantas points, I would accept in an instant. It is roughly equal value depending on specific flights, but then cash is always a safer bet for currency than ff miles. Regardless of what they do, RBA has a better credibility in my view than Qantas! :)

Westpac not awarding Earth/Qantas bonus points

I also noticed today that my bonus points (>4000) did not post, and were not recorded on the statement either. I called Westpac to check. The rep. said he will get the relevant parties to investigate and call me back, and gave me a reference number. I'll ring tomorrow if I don't hear from them...

    Turkish Airlines for Australia

I agree that food seems to be one of their main drawcards: * They won pretty much every best airline food award there is, Skyscanner, AirTrax, etc. you name it. * They have an inflight chef greeting you into the plane, in proper chef attire * A friend of mine flying Switzerland-Turkey (~2 hour...

Travel precaution - certified copy of passport helpful?

That may be right, although if you suddenly find yourself without a passport in a faraway corner of the world, I suppose you are just issued an emergency (temporary) travel document right away, instead of having to wait for the full replacement passport to be printed and mailed to you.

    Turkish Airlines for Australia

SYD-IST is 9,293 miles. I actually think TK may go for a IST-MEL routing - SYD is served up pretty well, and there are much more people with Turkish/Greek heritage in MEL, who may be interested in IST as a destination/connection point, compared to SYD. IST-MEL is still a chunky 9,083 miles...

    Turkish Airlines for Australia

That's fair, sorry to have misquoted you. I should have said "I hope your predictions can materialize as soon as possible."

    Turkish Airlines for Australia

That would be fabulous news, right? Us Australian Frequent Flyers would enjoy travelling at depressed low-fares while airlines battle it out and let their foreign shareholders take the hit. I hope your good wishes come alive as soon as possible.

    Turkish Airlines for Australia

This made a lot of sense particularly when Qantas' euro routings refused to acknowledge there was anything in Europe outside the British Isles. A few years ago, when I had queries my agent about Qantas itineraries ex-SYD on to Turkey, Ukraine, Greece, Romania or Russia, I was frequently offered...

Travel precaution - certified copy of passport helpful?

G'day all, When I travel overseas, I typically get a few colour copies of my passport and keep one in the carry-on, checked luggage as well as in a safe place back home. I also email a scanned copy to myself. I do it because I guess it might come handy if I end up losing my passport and have to...

Best travel insurance against cancellation of trip due to airline delay?

Thanks cynicor. I think their "missed departure/connection" clause (Section 11 in their PDS) only covers "necessary and reasonable additional travel and accommodation expenses". My read of that was that: * If I am in Jakarta and my flight out to Sorong (where my dive trip begins) is delayed by 8...

Best travel insurance against cancellation of trip due to airline delay?

Hmmm... I see your point and I agree it takes a bit of responsibility for those who book travel as well, but they could remedy that by putting a minimum delay required, e.g. "we will only pay claims if there is more than a 4 hours delay". This would eliminate those who deliberately construct...

Best travel insurance against cancellation of trip due to airline delay?

trooper - I agree, I'd jump on a product like that as well. Alas, it remains elusive. I have just called TID to confirm: If the delay is caused by the carrier (even if it is not caused by me or is in my control) I will get zilch/nada/zero compensation (except a pack of instant noodles while I...

Best travel insurance against cancellation of trip due to airline delay?

Thanks heaps for snooping this out. I've read the section. Section 2.1 looks promising, but then they say "For what we will not pay in this section, please refer to Exclusions to Sections 1-23 (page 16) and General Exclusions: applicable to all sections (page 22)." and then in the Exclusions to...

Best travel insurance against cancellation of trip due to airline delay?

Hello and thanks a lot for the perspective and looking forward to hearing your response when you've received a clarification from TID. I think my situation is a bit different, in that I am not necessarily after reimbursing the cost of a 5$ noodle, $50 hotel room I will have to buy if my flight...

Best travel insurance against cancellation of trip due to airline delay?

Thanks for the tip on Columbus. Their pds seems to allow for "trip abandonment" if there is a 12-hour delay in the itinerary. It is not ideal (even if there's a substantial 8-hour delay, which would likely make me miss the boat, all they pay for is still ~$300), but closer to what I would like...
