I really want an Australian Bonvoy credit card

Maybe not the CC we are all after, but a nice Christmas present from Marriott was my life membership card, in Ti! Would rather it be from Pt, but very nice with name and number inscribed on the back. Could not resist but flashed it booking into the JW in BKK over the weekend and it was the first...

Nice beers i have had recently - Trappist, lagers, Ales et al.

I'm supposed to be transitting on the way to Tirupati in the next two weeks so i will certainly seek it out. But, back onto beer, this was a very nice drop i tasted in the Philippines. I was expecting a lager type copy, but very surprised as very Hoegaarden like in taste, but not colour. Crisp...

Nice beers i have had recently - Trappist, lagers, Ales et al.

Was in Bangalore just before Christmas and stayed at the Sheraton. Went to their rooftop bar (at the World Trade Centre) with an Indian colleague. I ordered a craft Weisse, name escapes me, but the waiter brought out a different beer. After some discussion the reason given was the beer was "out...

    Bangkok Taxi Scam

Just talking right now in the office to my Thai colleagues its certainly not a farang problem! The GM's daughter was "taken" last weekend where the fare is usually 300 baht, but got hit with 500. She forgot to take the taxi number. GM said one of the rorts has a sort of a button/peddle that they...

    Bangkok Taxi Scam

in context across the taxi world, not a bank breaker for me, but, it is dishonest and illegal fiddling with a meter. I tip well, but the tourist who gets ripped off on this is not good. Can add another $15 - $20 to the taxi fare to a river hotel.

    Bangkok Taxi Scam

Agree it is a painful way, being on the other side of the airport you know you have been taken to the cleaners. Even worse is that you drive a long way past it too before turning into the airport.

    Bangkok Taxi Scam

yes some get on the expressway at Bang Na and go on the Pattaya/Chon Buri expressway. This morning i got the motor taxi from the hotel to the BTS, then down to Bang Na. Car from Bang Na, passed the airport and continued for 2 hours, 40 minutes of that on the expressway.

As a frequent traveller, i was thinking of all the ways i have travelled throughout BKK et al. Bangkok Taxi Scam

not sure how you keep the booking slip other than the printout from the taxi machine, but as a frequent taxi rider here i have a snapshot of his taxi plate. Further, i have a very good friend in security at BKK and he is going crazy over the way i was treated. The driver will now be banned from...

    Bangkok Taxi Scam

Arrive BKK hotel this morning and front story on the Bangkok Post was reporting on a German report about the hotels, taxi, etc, scam in various parts in Thailand at the moment. Perfect timing as i just had a nasty experience coming from the airport with a taxi whose meter was doctored. As a...

Watches for frequent travel and half time zones

Well my watch is probably really too traditional, doesn't need charging, new batteries or the internet to work, easy to change and see (as you get older) and keeps your hands free. I using it right now (this minute) in SE Asia as i bring in a furnace and its perfect with the loud noises...

Travelling support for the Aged, a lot of help

Thanks to all of the comments, but i think my job is now to convince them their travelling days are over. Going to be hard because it was a huge feature of their life, at least 3 trips per year for 45 years. Just to answer some of the above; for the past five years J class has been standard...

Travelling support for the Aged, a lot of help

I've mentioned a number of times in posts here over the years one of strengths of travelling for me was dad and mum's many trips to Thailand (100 +) when we were growing up and travel/asia/people etc, just became the family norm. Unfortunately they have reached that time in life that its...

Nice beers i have had recently - Trappist, lagers, Ales et al.

This one to me was a classic, not because of the beer, but by the alcohol content 4.91%, are you kidding 2 decimal places! The beer itself was not bad a bit like a Toohey's old but a bit lighter in burnt character. Not bad for San Miguel.

Nice beers i have had recently - Trappist, lagers, Ales et al.

Its been some time since I've posted anything, a bit of a personal self-imposed exile after some of the debate on a few threads during the last election.
