How good would it be to have a credit card on the market that enables earning bonus nights for elite status with Bonvoy? It's nice being able to transfer Amex rewards points to Bonvoy but I'd love a Marriott branded card that comes with more benefits, especially bonus nights.

What do you think are the chances of a card like this coming to the Australian market?

Only in America, as they say.

Common Marriott, you're meant to be a global hotel chain. UK still has an SPG branded Amex available which automatically gets Gold Elite after GBP15K spend.. but of course this is a legacy card.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

1%

USA financial institutions have different unit economics in the card game than that of Australian banks.

I would have enjoyed an SPG card back in the day but Bonvoy is not on my list.
Really no incentive to stay with them as LTP with no chance of getting to Titanium.SNAs have become nearly useless.Less upgrades.now only stay if a hotel I like or no other option.

I would love this but I don’t think it will happen unfortunately, especially since the Hilton one has been withdrawn. I would be very happy for any opportunity to earn hotel points for credit card spend at a reasonable rate in Australia. It is a missing link in having a points-funded holiday right now.

I wish! My brother who lives in the US runs all his company expenses through the Bonvoy card. He just hit 800,000 points within 6 months. :0

I wonder if a Canadian Amex is as hard to get as a US card.

Pretty much similar rules/difficulty ..they use the same credit score type model the USA uses and same companies ..need to have legitimate proof of residency or that you are there enough to warrant them giving you a card like SIN # (Tax File Number) ..a canadian bank account ..showing you pay bills there etc. etc.

I'd be all for a Marriott Bonvoy card that just let you earn Bonvoy points at a decent rate (so you could then transfer the points to airlines). There are the Amex cards, but they no longer offer a decent earn rate.

See the article on Headforpoints yesterday; the UK SPG card is being hobbled as of next month.

UK had a Marriott Mastercard many moons ago, which existing cardholders still have. That’s the only card I’ve ever held that I regret cancelling.

Interesting. The new UK Marriott Bonvoy card gives 15 bonus elite nights. That would really help me getting to platinum!

I wish I hadn't shut down my BA Amex when I left the UK, because if I still had an Amex there I'd be on the phone to them to get them to switch it to the Bonvoy one.

Not the best suggestion and I don't know if it'd work, but when I got my USA Amex Bonvoy CC a few things helped (if you wanted to go to this trouble...)
  1. Amex USA asked for a 3 way call between me and Amex Australia to confirm I paid my bills and had a good credit score (as I had an Aussie Amex at the time). I think I pushed for this to happen as I said to Amex USA that I had an Aussie card and never paid late
  2. I had an American bank account (but I doubt they checked this as it had $1k in it)
    1. Perhaps you could setup a free Citibank global currency account and transfer some AUD to USD just to prove you had a USD bank account?
  3. I had a real USA postal address
    1. Perhaps you could setup one of those cheap USA parcel lockers?
I didn't need a social security number to get the USA Amex and it's worked out perfectly...
I've never cancelled it, so I'm not sure if I did that if they'd require new details from me (e.g a SSN)...

A bit of work the above, but it might work if you were happy with losing $$ in the USD FX to pay the card off.

I phoned them up last year about it coming to Australia and they said 'no'. Dam it, they were offering really good bonus points.

Maybe not the CC we are all after, but a nice Christmas present from Marriott was my life membership card, in Ti! Would rather it be from Pt, but very nice with name and number inscribed on the back. Could not resist but flashed it booking into the JW in BKK over the weekend and it was the first anyone had seen (bloody showoff!). Pity some hotels didn't teach some airlines on what loyalty is about!
