    What frequent flyers really want?

You don’t want to have to lift 160kg down from the top shelf!! 🫣

Article: What's Your Seat Recline Strategy?

Qantaslink 717 with the seat in front of you fully reclined … unless you know about the secret button to release/collapse the aisle-side armrest (I didn’t!) you need to be comprised of liquid to get out without touching the seat in front (I mean your knees are already touching the seat in front...

    Will ATC ever be automated?

I reckon yes, but it will be a VERY long time … technology seems to be very conservative in the aircraft/flight industry, and I kinda think I want it that way!

Article: What's Your Seat Recline Strategy?

Heh heh … reclining of the seat in front makes people use that seat in front as a rattle-rattle-rattle-shake-shake-shake handle to get out. :)

Article: What's Your Seat Recline Strategy?

Which assertions? The only one I can pick out is the bit about domestic daytime flights, is there some medical evidence saying there's a blood-flow positive of not reclining or some-such even for only a couple of hours? (I'm thinking DVT with that Q)

Article: What's Your Seat Recline Strategy?

Geez, I reckon you'd have to go back a few decades to before business & first seats were introduced that had a hard shell &/or were built into a fixed frame, to find such seats that impeded the space of the passenger behind! OK maybe not that far, now I think about it, I had a KLM flight on a...

Article: What's Your Seat Recline Strategy?

My strategy is to wait until the person in front reclines so I can no longer use the IFE or read a book /magazine, sigh, and recline mine to sit there awake for what feels like the next 29-or-so hours.

    What frequent flyers really want?

I don’t know that many really-high-mileage frequent flyers, but the few I know do all wax lyrical about the lounges, and have their favourites plus an encyclopaedic knowledge of which ones to use where. I certainly understand getting sick of that perk if you’re, say, flying out of HBA regularly...

Article: Why The Journey Is As Important As The Destination

Why do all reports of cruises include a report of being really really ill for a week or two upon return (or from the middle of the trip)?

Article: Why The Journey Is As Important As The Destination

Minor point of order your honour … but wasn’t people taking a gap year something that started in the 60’s, when Aussies would go to London for a year, or tramp around the the Middle East (which wasn’t yet ALL a war zone)?

Inexpensive Overnight in Singapore between Connecting International flights?

^ Took us 1.5hrs to get landside at Changi, only done it once so assumed that was normal! The way back was really quick, but again sample-of-one, my wife was QF P so we went through the Super Special security/checkin where you sit on couches & there’s no waiting - didn’t really see the pleb...

    ZERO alcohol drinks on airlines

Beer I agree, it just doesn’t work. Spirits … well, not spirits per se, but a lot of mocktails using some of the faux spirits are really tasty! Problem is that stuff’s a PITA to make & hence has a lot of costs for what you get, but setting that aside heaps of those are super tasty! And as...

Inexpensive Overnight in Singapore between Connecting International flights?

How long between flights … and have you looked into the cost of the air-side hotel so you don’t need to spend potentially a total of hours getting out & back in again?

    International Destinations for NTL

Williamstown is a fair way outta Newcastle though … and in concept, the train would kinda/sorta be replacing driving or flying, so I don’t know if an extension to Newcastle airport makes that much sense?

    International Destinations for NTL

It’s more likely airlines would expect people to fly into a Sydney airport and catch a fast train to Newcastle, than a fast train connection would be built from Newcastle to it’s airport … IMHO.

    International Destinations for NTL

… and even if it did, what elanshin said about WSI’s existence in a few short years would kick it’s viability pretty heavily.

    International Destinations for NTL

Would some of the newer about-737-sized aircraft reach southeast Asian places though? Stuff like the longer range A220’s & A320’s? Or does making it that far mean not carrying many people, and hence not worth it from Newcastle? The Bonza thing makes me think that maybe the conventional wisdom...

Checked baggage JL international, QF domestic separate booking

My experience has been that whatever the allowances are for each leg of your trip, they’re the ones that are applied on that leg. So if you’re buying a J ticket from QF on JAL metal, and linking it to a Y fare from QF, then the restrictions on the Y leg will be the same as if you bought that Y...
