Do not disturb sign being ignored

I think it's more common these days in the US since the shooting from the hotel in Las Vegas. Hotels will cite security as the reason to check for your obvious weapon haul at least every second day.

Indeed. MIL has long-held resentment towards FIL for over indulging in wine. Bless her, she’s done an amazing job keeping herself and FIL healthy and they’ve lasted much longer than their parents. I’m reminded of stories my Uncle GP’s wife (GP was my Uncle by marriage … it’s complicated) told...

Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF1930 on Sun 26 Jan ADL-BNE Qantas Link plane, not Alliance. I was in 2A. I think there was a salmon salad, but everyone in row 3 ordered it, so my option was a Beef curry or the sandwich from Y. Curry was tasty, I didn’t bother with bread. Cheesecake was nice.

I think the topic came up because he’s decided to start drinking wine again. Mr Katie was in trouble last year for giving FIL wine at the weekly dinners at ours. I’m going to get into trouble for encouraging wine, sleeping pills and chocolate crackles. Then FIL will probably bloody live another...

FIL last night discussing he's finding it hard to sleep. Has some sleep pills (not sure where from), but won't take them so he doesn't get addicted to them. 🤦‍♀️ He is 85, has heart failure, GP just refused to certify him for his driver's license ... at this stage of his life, addiction to...

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Dinner at Gaucho’s (ADL) last night. This drop was the highlight of the meal. Overall food was fairly tasty, but didn’t enjoy our server. Had some facial expressions when dealing with one of our group that should not have been displayed. Also yelling at our entire table of 10 ppl. My...

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Also mentioning the Australian women’s cricket team in ADL QP. Based on their uniforms. I may have been in a lift full of male pro cyclists at the ADL Hilton earlier today, but I couldn’t recognise any of them. Could have been entourage, definitely all in team shirts (not full kits, no knicks!).

A Boyhood Dream Fulfilled: Space-Geek Tour of the USA

We enjoyed it (we were also sitting next to the actor playing Marty’s girlfriend). Pretty awesome ending scene that had our jaws dropping open.

    Little things I like

Spent some time with family last week, including a dinner at my sister's, where we got to meet her new (to us, not to her) partner and his 4yo daughter. Our brother was there with his two kids, and my brother and sister's mother was also there. So, my teen arrives and immediately the three...

A Boyhood Dream Fulfilled: Space-Geek Tour of the USA

We saw Back to the Future, The Play that goes Wrong, Drag The Musical and Hadestown in November. Would recommend all. Though, maybe only Drag the Musical if you loved NKOTB/Joey McIntyre as a teen. ;) :P

How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I booked a room at Hilton ADL for some nights in the coming week when it was showing as unavailable (not surprising as the main team hotel for the Tour Down Under). I used the Diamond guarantee to book. Looked at the app yesterday, and a cost was showing for my room ... Diamon guarantee rate of...

FIL update: For reasons I'm not sure about, FIL had his cataract surgeries in December (last I knew his cardiologist had said earlier in 2024 to abandon all plans for further surgeries - clearly, FIL's overall condition hasn't been as bad as predicted in May/June 2024, so it was worth...

Third Test, Australia v India, Gabba

More two degrees of separation in good old BNE @QF WP. I thought I recognised Sid from your photos. He also works for my step-sister and her husband in their catering business. I'm just used to seeing him in their dark blue check shirts, not a plain white one!

I understand, I'm just not sure how I can broach it in a way that would be received well, and more crucially, result in action. Dad already has a skinny wife telling him to eat less, etc. Nagging or lecturing won't help. I'm sure his surgeons must have broached it with him. He does not enjoy...

Dad's in recovery after his TURP, apparently it went well. Mum just texted (Mum and Dad have not been married to one another since the 70s); my 98yo Grandma fell on her way to lunch, just in the doorway of her room. The RN at her home is looking after her, G'ma didn't hit her head, but landed...
