Hey guys,

Just wondering how many of you guys do that? (aside from the 10points/dollar bonus!)

Esp for international flights....

The 10 points per dollar was a limited promo that no longer applies.

yea i know. Just wondering if anyone banked up gift vouchers just to offset cc fees. I guess most would have banked it for the points :)

Most would have got them for the points. But the gift vouchers are still available without points, so no need to bank up for that reason.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ah ok, I thought they took a while to get from time of ordering so could make you miss out on a "good deal"

Cheers!

The voucher is almost immediately available to book with.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

oh i didnt know that. I always thought it had to be posted out...

To tack onto this thread,

Say you were booking SYD-MEL flights eg: $178 red e-deal, could you buy a gift voucher to cover the base fare (let's say $100 is the closest amount) and pay the remainder fare and surcharges/taxes with a gift card? Would this then work around the credit card fee?

Any voucher that is less than the base fare will work. So a $50 voucher would achieve this.

The credit card fee does not apply when using a gift voucher. No work around is required.

Yep I do exactly this, just buy a $50 voucher, usually in your inbox within 15 minutes then go ahead and buy the flight. Just have to make sure you select the correct number of people etc when buying the voucher.

I bought the gift vouchers for the points and to avoid the credit card surcharge. Purchased 34 gift vouchers of various denominations and still have 15 gift vouchers left with only one return flight in July and flights from September through to end of year.

The good part is the SYD-BNE airfares are $129 from 1 July which means I can use the $100 gift vouchers I have left on one-way flights. ;) The $122 and $123 airfares have a base airfare <$100 while the $129 airfare goes just over.

I will probably continue to buy gift vouchers next year. If I am still commuting that could mean a saving of ~$300 a year....

I do it. It works easily enough, I generally have the voucher within 90 minutes and saving the $ is always worth it.
