As I have not previously travelled Qantas domestic J, can anyone tell me the differences (if any) between the Qantas Club and Business domestic lounges? (The Qantas web site seems to indicate that if you are flying domestic J you can access either of these lounges)

I haven't noticed that great a deal of a difference between the qp and j lounge in terms of food and drink. However, I have noticed a difference between the amount of kids in qp compared to jlounge (more of them in qp). I love kids, don't get me wrong, but when I'm trying to relax... that is a different story.

The food in my experience is nicer. They've had cooked options (sausages, potato rosti, nice egg dishes and etc.) at breakfast time and I've had lovely pizza when flying out in the afternoon. I have however had the regular QP food in the J lounge when I was flying out of MEL at 3pm on a Saturday. Perhaps it's a demand thing.

Totally agree with your kids comment though. I don't mind well behaved kids, but screaming banshees in the lounge - not fair. My selfish attitude could be as a result of my childless lifestyle (please know that I'm not trying to rude to all those parents out there), but I think I'm entitled to enjoy a relaxing and serene environment.

But there are more annoying execs. Lol.

I like the summary above. Subtle differences but nothing earth shattering.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

There are some differences but not always for the best.

One example was early afternoon BNE-SYD flight on Friday. I was a little hungry and wanted something hot to eat. Nothing in the business lounge at ~2:30pm. Went across to Qantas lounge and had some sort of pie mixture without the pastry and mash potato. It was actually quite tasty and I had 2 serves before my flight.

Less than you hope given the anticipation of going though that frosted glass door.

Subtle differences only and varies according to the lounge. Heck, my daughter refuses the MEL J lounge as she likes the food in the MEL QP better (I disagree).

SYD J lounge is very nice compared to the QP.

BNE J lounge is a zoo. Never been in the QP there which I suspect is probably less crowded.

Generally less kids and also less female pax in the J Lounge. More of a guys 'smoking lounge' sort of feel (without the smoking of course). Food is usually a little better.
One exception is PER INT Lounge which is pretty lame on all counts (Dom Qlub is better)... but then has little QF Int traffic.

I agree the differences are minimal and I always have to reprimand myself for eating and drinking too much in either lounge. An advantage of most QC lounges is a mobile phone free zone.

Recently experienced the International First Class lounge at Sydney - had made it there once before a long time ago. It's certainly a nice way to have breakfast before a flight.

Well it would be if anyone took any notice of it :(

edit: I'm pretty sure I've already told the story of the guy sitting in the MEL J lounge quiet area, talking away at the top of his voice on his mobile, when the guy next to me got up and moved the "Quiet Zone - no mobiles" sign and placed it directly in front of the guy on the phone. He of course completely ignored it and kept on talking away!

if you are flying Jetstar can you access any of these lounges - or is the Gold Coast the only lounge you can buy into? Meaning not being a true Qantas Club member
Or not travelling Business (even in Jetstar)

I was heartily sick of the BNE QP and looked forward to getting to WP so I could join the execs in the J lounge. Well there seemed just as many people in there in only half the space. And the QP is always busy.
Food was better but it was crowded.
The SYD J lounge is much better than the QP.

Sadly TSV (which I visit a lot) doesn't have a J lounge, could do with it or expanding the existing QP as it's tiny. It doesn't seem that long ago it moved from outside security to inside though, probably longer than I care to remember though.

What is it with the SYD business lounge catering these days? I cannot remember the last time they had non-curry hot food. I know it was Argentinian slow cooked beef but it was a long time ago.

Now all they seem to have is curry, curry and more curry. And the pizzas are nothing special either. Back to just thin crust only with the toppings very hard to find. Not even going to try them....

1. Have you never tried the Luke Perry (TM) party pies?
2. Have you never tried the island dining?
3. Failing all of the above, the T2 Qantas lounge has a nice varied hot food selection

1. Have you never tried the Luke Perry (TM) party pies?
I would much rather have a plain party pie. The designer stuff does nothing for me especially the curry pies they have had recently.

There is only so much curry a human being can have in a lifetime and I have just about exhausted my allowance.

2. Have you never tried the island dining?
Apart from the sandwich in BNE recently island dining has been a fizzer.

3. Failing all of the above, the T2 Qantas lounge has a nice varied hot food selection
A long way to go for some hot food when flight departs from T3.
