Qantas' New A321XLR

While I was hoping for something akin to Nalanji Dreaming, I don't mind it considering:
- It was apparently designed by kids with disabilities, and
- It's a livery promoting the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and QF's previous such liveries tend to be a bit basic (e.g. VH-VXO Sharing the Spirit, VH-VZO Prostate Cancer Foundation). Probably easy to remove if the partnership ends.

Yeah seems more designed for easy removal down the track without requiring a full strip and paint.

First flight on the 321 in J, very surprised that a regular backpack has no chance of fitting under either seat in front, at least in row 3 D/F.
In my aisle seat, the mount for the seat in front was almost in the middle of the space. In the window seat, Mrs excel's bag looked like it would fit width wise but it was too high when laying on its back to slide forward. Perhaps a slimmer backpack might have fit, but her bag wasn't unreasonably chunky on this trip.

So, both went in the overheads. The new bins on these 321s have plenty of room but it's a (minor) frustration to have to put the bag up and down when I'm used to always having access to it.

Yes on these and all dom J where the new seats are installed there is only room for a handbag or small satchel upright to the right (on aisle) or left (on window). If they got rid of foot rest then chance of a laptop bag flat under the seat.

The leg room is good, as in the arm rest cubby/charging but the under seat storage is wayless than old 737 J seat.

VH-OGG positioned to SYD this morning.
And into ops as QF645 to PER.

How SYD centric of QF to give SYD the inaugural service :-)

Any chance of seeing these on other routes anytime soon? OOL, CNS etc?
Would think they still need a lot more of the new aircraft for that. More likely that more A321XLR arriving frees up other aircraft to move onto those routes reducing use of Embraer etc.

The Australian Insta with a post claiming video of the International 321XLR config.

Accuracy questioned on Reddit given it was filmed weeks ago at a general Airbus event, rather than from QF.. but claims a herringbone (not reverse, so no window views) design.

Posters in Reddit suggest the design shown is the Thompson Vantage Solo, a derivative of the seat Qf currently uses in its wide bodies

No chance it's real. QF announce things 10 years in advance with multiple delays. Surely they wouldn't have changed the process this time :)

Perhaps the Oz article was missing an ā€œIs thisā€ and end with a question mark….šŸ˜‚

Given we are talking about QF, surely they would have been out with all sorts of hints, reveals, exclusives, media events if there was a skeric of a chance they had narrowed down a design.

Also since when ever did QF go for a bold colour including painting aircraft walls?

Maybe a reporter heard QF were dealing with a particular seat designer and drew a really really long bow.

Given the current delays related to certifying reverse herringbone in the narrowbodies (not to mention losing some space they could otherwise squeeze more seats into) I’d not be surprised were this the eventual design - no doubt with some Caon-inspired wood panelling.
