2025 F1 Thread

Can someone explain why McLaren did what they did?
What was the potential upside.

I know nothing about F1 other than the drivers are nuts and the cars don't have V8
Speculation hat is on here, but they couldn't double stack without impacting Lando and so "it wouldn't have been fair". That and track position in Qatar is king, and I guess I have to also think they didn't expect everyone (except Ocon, RIP) to pit.

Oscar drove a perfect race in the fastest car, and ended P2. Can't imagine Webber is overly happy.

I don’t understand how Qatar, a comparatively new race track, was designed with so few overtaking opportunities. It’s almost Monaco in the desert.

Sorry, could you Please Explainᵀᴹ for the dummies please thanks

Sounded like Qatar track is very fast so difficult to overtake?? So opposite of Monaco but same consequence?

Double staking is when both of the team’s two cars go into the pits at the same time.
As there’s only room for one car to be serviced at a time, the second car has to wait till the first has gone. This disadvantage the second car.

Lando was about 5 seconds behind by the yellow anyway....so wouldnt have been much of a delay
And they both ended up being put into traffic due to being off cycle from the rest of the field.
This plus the Imola "swap" has been quite impactful to one of their drivers

As always lots of what ifs this year as we look to the final race.
Key ones for me - The Imola swap (+- 3 Oscar Lando), the Silverstone Penalty (+- 7 Oscar Lando), Spain red mist (+9 Max)

Agree a double stack wouldn't have cost Lando much.
And given McLaren used Hards in the short final stint anyway, they didn't use the flexibility.

Surely the situation of a lap 7-15 SC would have been war games in the prep.

Don't other teams have >1 car as well?

Could competing interests - constructors championship vs individual championship have affected what McL decided to do?
Yes all teams have 2 cars, and some of the second cars had to wait (double stack) until the leading car in the team ( first car into the pits) had its tyres changed.
I think McLaren hoped there would be another safety car which means because the cars on the track have to drive much slower the time lost in a pit stop is significantly less.

OK, you’re opinions on this scenario:-

PIA needs to (at a minimum) beat both VER and NOR in Abu Dhabi to win the Championship.
VER has to score 12 more points than NOR to win.
NOR simply has to finish on the podium to win.
What happens if in the final lap, VER is leading and PiA a distant second, but NOR is in fourth.
PIA cannot win the championship from that position but if he lets NOR pass him, then his team mate wins the WDC.
Does PIA give up his position to enable NOR to claim the championship?

NO - personally
But… it would expected it is yes by his ‘team’ who have supported him so well during the year

No way.
"Thats not how we go racing"
Have had that shoved in our faces enough this year

In that scenario, yes
MCL will win the teams championship regardless and would like NOR to give them the double.
I think PIA wont give up the podium

Possibly this scenario:
VER 1st
PIA 2nd but closer than distant.
NOR 4th

PIA goes all out to catch VER and then in the process crashes out with "red mist" which by default puts NOR on podium?
