Hi all,

The extended family are all staying with us in the Whitsundays for a week next September for my wife's milestone birthday and we've managed to convince the in-laws to take the kids home with them at the end, giving us a few extra nights anywhere we want :cool:.

The family are flying out of HTI and our only requirement is to be back in MEL three nights later.

We like the beach; we like the water; we like quiet and it will be school holidays 😛

Any travel tips or suggestions? We can fly basically anywhere. We're not staying on Hamilton with the whole family, so could go there for something different, but I'm wary of it being peak time. Maybe something like beach club for some seclusion?

Any ideas welcome!

MrsK and I enjoyed a week in Airlie Beach back in August. Very laid-back place with a lot to see and do. You can get the ferry from Hamilton Island to Airlie Beach and fly home from Proserpine Airport. The only downside is it's either Jetstar or Virgin to get back to Melbourne.

* Reef House at Palm Cove

* Meridian Port Douglas

* Turtle Cove via Port Douglas
A big +1 for The Reef House - ticks all of the boxes, and an adults-only place if you're thinking of heading down to Cairns - just down the road really. The Peninsula in Port Douglas is also very good, and again kid-free.
