Sorry i should clarify now i'm not coming off a 12-hour night shift (vintage is rough).

It's not so much that the VM sale price is inflated. Here is how people could have worked with VM in the past.

(Hypothetically of course)
We have xx_ wine and want to sell as the next vintage is rolling around but we don't want to hurt our brand or undercut our direct and established sales channels. So we'll pay our graphic designer to whip up a new label (in some case whole brands have been created) to place on the bottle and sell exclusively to VM with some listed on our website for credibility etc.

Now the $28/bottle of Shiraz is rebranded, sold to VM at $8/bottle and sold on VM for $15/bottle with a stated RRP of $69/bottle (we now have this wine on our website and in cd at $69)

It's still a high point scoring wine, from an award-winning winery, and VM customers are still getting it for $15 down from $28...

VM is great and there are some really great wines from great winemakers on there that otherwise wouldn't find a home, just be wary of any wines and brands you're not familiar with and take unverified RRP's with a grain of salt.

I think they were sold out as the part of the push of VM brokers to clear the stocks.
Here is the email I received from a broker. Perhaps they hold some stock for their clients - maybe worth trying them direct.

But today I really wanted to shine a light on these wines as they are quite probably the best Shiraz deals we've had in the last twelve months. This is a seriously boutique producer, with Kim Tuesner as winemaker and cuttings from the Mt Edelstone vineyard. Our buyer, Tully, had to work incredibly hard to get these wines on board, and they deserve a lot of love and attention. Tully told us yesterday that these are "possibly the best deals she's brought on board for Vinomofo yet". If you get one premium Shiraz from us this year, definitely make it one of these. Owned by the Angas family (yes, that Angas family), Hutton Vale Farm is an iconic piece of Barossa history. Having reared various stock on the Hutton Vale Farm for over a century, in 1987, John Duval (iconic Penfolds Grange winemaker) mentored the family and helped them produce their first wines in 1987. Their Shiraz vines, planted in 1960, are from cuttings taken from the Mt Edelstone vineyard which, while now part of Henschke's incredible portfolio, was actually planted by Ronald Angas in 1912. The provenance of these wines is astounding, and we're incredibly lucky to be able to sell some of their stock! We gave these a try in the office yesterday, and as well as being absolutely beautifully presented, these wines are incredibly high quality, and even at full RRP are great value.​

96 Halliday Wine Companion Fruit from a single vineyard, planted in 1968 with cuttings from Mt Edelstone. Hand picked, matured for 2 years in oak (50% new), a further 2 years in bottle prior to release. A special vineyard that routinely expresses blueberries laced with graphite, sheets of hung deli meat, raspberry, ground white pepper, fresh nutmeg and littered with crushed pink peppercorns. No matter how it is made, or by whom, the fruit shines in a way that evokes memories of the nearby landscape ... towering gum trees, exposed granite boulders in places, and fresh, open air. This is spicy, layered and nuanced. It's really good. - Erin Larkin This is an absolutely sensational Shiraz that is drinking perfectly right now with some time in air. We decanted it for just under an hour and it was singing. A complex noes of rich dark plums and dark berries, cola spice (chinotto style), dark chocolate, after dinner mint, anise, and volcanic minerality. The palate is just delicious, with leathery dark chocolate, ripe black plums and black cherries, plush tannins that are supple yet present enough to carry the weight of the wine perfectly across the palate. This is a wonderful wine for drinking now, but you could definitely put it down for another 5-10 to see some super interesting development. $75 down to [Black Market Price] in a 6-pack. 96 Wine Orbit Ok, so while there isn't a strong online presence for this Shiraz, and it hasn't been put forward to Wine Companion for rating, there is a very good reason for it. This is, as the name suggests, a wine compiled of only the best barrels of the above Shiraz. It's also only usually sold at the cellar door as quantity is so limited due to the exacting process by which it is crafted. This is a wine for lovers of super primo. While it is drinking incredibly well with some time open, we reckon it's ideal drinking window will start in another 3-5 years, and will continue to develop beautifully over the next 10-15 easily. This is one to try now, then forget about until 2030 for ultimate reward. We are seriously lucky to get some of this drop on board! The nose is incredibly deep and complex, with notes of charred rum barrels, black forrest cake, rum balls and dark cherries and plums. The palate shows incredible structure, with clean acidity and firm, savoury tannins balancing the rich, juicy fruit profile and touch of black olive on the finish. This is a beast of a wine that will pair incredibly well with fine steak. $100 down to [Black Market Price] in a 6-pack. This is incredible value for the amount of quality you're getting! Let me know ASAP if you're keen on these, as we're unlikely to see them again!​

Barrel select was offered twice last week via brokers only. I quizzed my broker for more information and was told that it is the selected barrels of their mainstay Shiraz. $35 per bottle.

Perhaps it is still available via brokers. I found it curious that it is not on their website, nowhere to be found online and yet carries meaningless 96 point review by Sam Kim. I was told that it is only sold at their cellar door.

I was somewhat tempted but having already bought their regular 2018 offering thought that was enough exposure for me.

It should be further noted that both are Eden Valley shiraz. I find VM classification “Barossa” even if technically correct is somewhat misleading.

I pay close attention to the actual reviewer from the JH cohort. The review is for Erin Larkin whom I rate highly and who is a hard unbiassed marker. She also moonlights for the Robert Parker Wine advocate. So she (unlike SK) has a good reputation in my books anyway.
