My status with Qantas is SG, hence OW Sapphire equivalent. Here's the story: yesterday I was flying from Hong Kong to Sydney on Qantas in Y and when I was queing up for boarding at the business lane, the ground staff came and check our boarding passes to make sure we're at the correct lane. Then, when it was my turn, the crew asked me to go to the economy lane coz I'm flying in the Y cabin. Passengers near me were giving me a weird look as if I'm trying to take advantage of the business lane without flying in J class. I then explained to the ground staff that I have a sapphire status in Oneworld so that I'm allowed to use the business lane. Finally, she let me stay but she didn't seem to be convinced by my reasoning. Has anyone of you experienced something like this in airports out of Australia?

I've never had an issue in HKG...lines and status are clearly labelled along with info on your BP.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Complain to Qantas, name names of the staff and demand action.

Why?-

There are 3 real benefits of QF Gold/OW Sapphire:

Biz class check-in
Lounge access
Priority boarding

If Qantas agents can't deliver 30% of the real benefits - your Gold status is not as advertised, and perhaps you would not have bought a Qantas ticket that day if you knew that 30% of your entitled benefits would not be met.

Priority boarding is a big deal.

It's a big deal.
It's a big deal.
It's a big deal.

It's one of those small moments which the airline needs to NOT screw up.

Front-line staff will never understand because they've likely NEVER been frequent flyers in their lives. They don't get that these small matters mean A LOT.
They don't get that you're in the top% of loyalty members, they don't get that you've 'done your time' as bronze/silver to get there, they don't get that you've probably spent more in flying in the past 12 months than they EVER will spend on their 100's of ID flights.

Complain, and complain and keep on complaining.

Note: Sometimes, a quiet whisper to the staff "You can see my Sapphire status here" (and then point to it on your boarding pass) is all that's needed.

Happy priority boardererrring!

Whilst I've never had an issue in HKG there is a very simple explanation. The staff involved were demonstrating their suitability for working on QFd flights where priority boarding is non-existent. :p

IIRC it would be HAS (Hong Kong Airport Services), not QF staff.
Perhaps a newer staff member.
