Flight tracking/logging app

Noticed a few of you have kept detailed logs of your flying which is pretty cool, and prompted me to do the same.

In terms of picking a platform/site though, what are people’s thoughts? I quite like the simple interface of the AFF one but then the Flightradar one seems a bit... jazzier(!) also like the feature where you can input your future bookings ahead of flying them.

Interested to hear your experiences.

I used Flightmemory for quite a while then came over to the AFF one; can't remember why, but given I had to do the export/import data thing, must have been a good reason! You can import future flights on the AFF system, I think up to all of the year after the current one. They appear as dashed tracks on the map until flown.

I used to use JetItUp but they seem to have disappeared a couple of months ago. What I really liked is I could just import from TripIt. This meant no manual entering of flights which I found to be way too time consuming.

I've looked at a few replacements and not found anything that comes close to JetItUp for ease of use and decent user interface. There were a couple of others that I could import from TripIt, but found them to be a little flakey and ugly.

At this point I've kind of given up. So interested to hear what others use.

It sure takes a lot of time to catch up on past trips - there was a thread here a few years ago when I and others approached the Dept Immigration under FOI for copies of our passenger arrival cards, going back to abt 1990 IIRC, to remind ourselves of the timing of various trips and flights!

But once you have, its pretty easy, even with manual data entry.

I've kept just about all my old boarding passes, other then 1 or 2 old DJ and TT passes, since I started traveling on my own in 2004.
I'd only had 2 trips before that, a CBR-MEL return on AN in during primary school and a CBR-xSYD-xNRT-xLAX-MCO-xDEN-xSFO-xNRT-xSYD-CBR for a family holiday before starting high school. Enough of the boarding passes for the MCO trip were kept to piece it back together and I was able to find historical data for the AN trip to work out something close enough.

I started with FlightMemory, before moving to OpenFlights (which the AFF one is based on) and for a period of time used the AFF implementation, and then tried FlightDiary that was eventually bought by FlightRadar24 – so I now use that. I especially like that when I add a flight that has been taken on FR24 it will auto-populate a lot of the information for me based on the flight number. Makes things a lot easier!

I use the AFF Openflights using the ability to import from TripIt.

Process is:

1. email eticket to TripIt,
2. go to TripIt and move flight(s) from "unfiled items" to their "trip".
3. Go to AFF open flights and import the new flight data from TripIt.

It takes me about a minute to update both tripit and openflights.

Microsoft Excel Actually I started on Lotus 1-2-3 and ported it to MS around 1996. I can add whatever pivot tables I want and rudimentary forecasting for milestones (1,000th QF flight etc)
