SilkAir trial of Broome - Singapore flights

Don't think this has been mentioned on AFF, according to various articles, Silk Air will operate four "trial"/charter flights between Singapore and Broome late May/early June. Interesting, but a shame not bookable without a holiday package,

Singapore flights demand takes off

Tickets are now on sale for the four return flights which will save more than six hours of travel time – from over 10.5 hours if travellers transit through Perth Airport to around four hours.

The first of the SilkAir flights will depart Changi Airport at 10.30am and the return flight will depart Broome at 4pm.

The flight dates which will run at the same times each day are listed as: May 22, May 26, May 29 and June 2.

Broome will now take off. I know a few people wanting to visit Broome but felt annoyed for needing to waste 4+ hours flying past then back again.

Will it be cheaper then flying from eastern Oz?

Let's hope this trial sees the light of day.

Two years back, SIA announced daily SIN - CGK - SYD flights which were later rescinded, much to my disappointment.

So presumably they have a solid deal with the travel agency and effectively are guaranteed revenue, plus presumably got a good deal from the airport. And it’s only 4 flights. Also, the cost of providing border control wont be small (wonder where they redeploy the border force staff from and what they do during the days in between). Assuming flight and cabin crew will turn around directly back to Singapore.

Interesting concept. Hard to see it being year-round but maybe there’s scope for seasonal flights. Also, presumably they must be selling some seats ex-BME to SIN (particularly on the first leg back to SIN??).

Hope they do well with it.

AFAIK, these "trial" flights are essentially like charters, only bookable with accommodation package.

For pricing based on the prices that include a hotel (3 Nights Broome Free & Easy (Dep: 26May on Silkair Direct Flight)) my guess is they've got the airfare component down to ~$700 per person return. Not bad for a chartered ~4 hour flight but certainly not cheap as SilkAirs Darwin - Singapore route which is often $600 per person return.

Whilst these Broome flights are cool I'm more interested in the proposed JetGo Brisbane-Karratha-Singapore operated by a E175 (Jetgo to acquire Embraer E175s to launch Brisbane-Karratha-Singapore flights in 2018 | Australian Aviation).

SilkAir's BME-SIN flights are back for 4 one-off services during June. Fares seem OK for a non-stop flight.

Broome isn't recognised by the silk air booking system (and even then there are no X fares available - required for an economy reward seat).

It's worth noting that last year these flights weren't added to the GDS and all that is showing is Y class and Z class:

$406 oneway or $619 return in Economy (Y)
$826 oneway or $1249 return in Business (Z)


oneway BME-SIN earns 1818 velocity points in Economy (2272 points in Business) and 40 status credits in Economy/ 80 status credits in Business.
