Needing to price a flight from PER to TLV and return in Y, one stop. To maximise points/SC going QF PER - LHR and then BA LHR - TLV. QF multi city tool gives an error. Google flights prices this at over $16k in Y!

What's going on here? Doesn't make sense. I could fly QF to SIN and then BA via LHR for a reasonable price, so clearly the LHR - TLV flight isn't stupidly expensive.

I rang QF to see what they could do. They see the same thing. Their suggestion is make two separate bookings, but I don't want to re-check bags in LHR, plus unlikely to be price competitive anyway.

Anyone able to shed some light on this?

FYI - dates are late April.

I’ve done this a few ways. BA will do it all on one ticket, but it’s not as good for SC as it was when there was the tighter QF-BA agreement

If you get a travel agent to book two separate tickets on the same itinerary, my experience is that the bags will be checked through.

You can price them both individually on Google Flights. Just make sure you have enough connection time between the flights.

Problem with two tickets (even on the same itiberary) is that you get charged higher LHR taxes than if it was just the one ticket.

Edit: Should have also said, my current favourite route is via DXB to IST on a QF coded EK flight, followed by TK from IST-TLV. It’s good because you get generous status credits to IST and there are loads of IST-TLV flights so if you miss one they’ll just put you on the next. Never had to re-check bags. I know it’s an extra stop from Perth, but I wonder if it’s a shorter trip given you’re backtracking less.

What about the recently announced QF/LY tie up?

I'd say the full Y pricing indicates a lack of offered fares in the route, which is very odd. I wonder about pricing from say SYD or MEL?

The last time I flew PER-TLV, I went EK PER-DXB-AMM with a very short RJ flight AMM-TLV. Business TA booked it all on a single ticket.

The quickest way was/is TG PER-BKK and then LY BKK-TLV. TG and LY appear to have some sort of cooperation on this route. I would try to avoid LY however.

I was hoping to fly QF to LHR and go for an upgrade. Can't do that with any of the other options.

No SC earn on LY unfortunately. Ironically the QF website suggests I fly PER - SYD - JNB on QF and then LY from JNB to TLV. No thanks!

I suspect its going to come down to choosing CX via HKG but a very long layover in HKG (11 hours, but at least can access the CX F lounges) or consider QF to LHR and then LY to TLV.

PM me your dates, desired flights etc. and I will see how it can be worked price wise.

I'd like to give a big shout out to madrooster for helping out. With his information I managed to tell the corporate travel agent to book this as two separate tickets on one PNR. Price was competitive and has saved me from lengthy layovers in HKG.

Now fingers crossed the J upgrades come through, otherwise that's some long flights in Y. Can't be any worse than the SYD - DFW sector in Y (I hope) :)
