So you've spoken and here's the first of 2 AFF Gathers's in 2008!

Given that the ability to edit posts disappears after a bit, I've set up a blog to serve as some kind of bulletin board for this event:

The Gathering

I will update the blog periodically. In the meantime this thread will serve as the official thread for the Gathering - so please RSVP ("Confirmed" or "Interested") and discuss the Gathering here.

Thanks for reading and I hope you can join us!!

Count me in (assuming I am in the country of course). I am as confirmed as I can be this far out. :)

Plse confirm me - maybe an AFL/NRL game could be part of the programme?

If not, certainly dinner/drinks are in order. ;)

Your application form to join the Organising Committee is in the mail. ;)

Count me in. I will make sure i am back in town if at all possible. I had planned to be back in town that week anyway :)

Fri - Pies vs Hawks MCG
Sat Bommers vs Demons MCG
Sat night Cats vs Tigers TD
Sun THE MIGHTY SAINTS vs Power TD

TD is by far the better venue as far as I am concerned and if we knew numbers, we could get a private venue at the dome

RSVP - hell yeah!

Count me in at this stage.

Sorry munitalP, I can't agree re TD vs MCG and will go so far as to say our social club will not attend any events at TD due the shoddy treatment we have received in the past. :(
That is probably arbitrary as I doubt that I would attend the football anyway :!:

Well, I've just moved to MEL, so put me down as a maybe.

Interested. Currently looking for a decently priced hotel :)

Please feel free to PM me with suggested activities, cheers. :)

I'm trying not to go too heavy on the schedule, so we don't end up doing "too much" and we have some stuff left over for next time. :)

That sounds like a great excuse to be in Melbourne in the middle of winter. Count me in. I am now looking for QF specials on the travel dates. QF Holidays 10,000 bonus points specials would be greatly appreciated otherwise I would have to settle for cheap DJ flights.

Another good idea for interstate visitors.....

That'd depend on people's budgets really and what they consider 'decently priced.'

Hazarding a guess, the lower tier Accor properties tend to be quite well priced - I've included a link to all the Accor properties in Melbourne in the blog. I once sent someone to the Victoria Hotel which has a good, central location on Lt Collins St - she got the room for $100 or so. The rooms there are a hit or miss but hers was decent.

Of the other chain properties, the HI on Flinders and the Hilton can be priced quite decently, though the Hilton is about 5-10 mins away by tram from the CBD in East Melbourne (though convenient for getting to Bridge Rd).

Interested.

Too hard to predict at this stage if I will be in town or not that weekend, but would like to attend.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Another note on hotels:

I've been advised that it is possible to negotiate a favourable group rate with a hotel if enough people are staying at a single hotel. I am most willing to do that on behalf of our interstate visitors.

Just waiting for more of you to sign up so that I "have the numbers." ;)

I've made a flex booking at the Westin for myself. I can't decide whether I want to be central or not - I'm sure the 15 mins tram ride isn't too onerous but I'm looking for any excuse to stay at the Westin Melbourne and it might well be easier to be central after a hard night. :p So if any Starwood people want to stay at the Westin - you're not alone. :D

Melbourne Storm is scheduled to Host the Gold Coast Titans that week end.

This game could be played any time betwixt 7:40pm Friday night to 7:00pm Monday!

Actual game times should be confirmed ~6 weeks before the game.
