Hi there,
I'm staying in Sydney for 4 nights in August.
I'm thinking Sheraton in Park or Four Season/Club Rooms?? ;)
Any good advice would be appreciated.

Cheers
Rolf

Four Seasons is my go-to brand. IMO FS Sydney is a massive weak link in the FS brand and not worth the coin.

What's your budget? If you can go with the Park Hyatt - you won't regret it!

Or Shangri-La, Intercon, Westin... depends on your style, budget and location requirements.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I stayed at the Westin the other week. It was excellent

Regarding the weak link comment about the Four Seasons. I agree. However, they are discounting and Four Seasons city view rooms are available at the moment for $175 on lastminute. I guess when a so called premium hotel has to discount ....

Sheraton and Westin are both very good hotels. I prefer the exec lounge at Sheraton for better variety of food.
Shangri-la club rooms are beautiful and they offer fantastic views of Circular Quay.
Four Seasons is a bit tired, won't be my first choice in SYD.
Don't bother with Hilton unless you need the stays to keep status.

Thank you very much for your replies, very much appreciated!!

Looks like Sheraton after all!!

Not cheap that's for sure but there's a reason it's considered the #1 hotel in Sydney.

Looking at being in Sydney for 5 nights, with our office near Hyde Park. Can those the know recommend something (ideally ~$200-225 or under per night) walking distance from Hyde park?

No status in any hotel chain, and haven't been to Sydney in the past decade so I'm not really familiar with the area.

Cheers!

Sheraton on the Park, walk across the road and you are at Hyde Park. I also like Sheraton four points at Darling Harbour for location to Darling Harbour. For a nice touch of luxury, the Langham, but a bit out of the way. I stayed at the Sofitel all last week, and did not rate it for the price paid.

At this price range you should check the Marriott. Sheraton is better if you are lucky to get 5 nights there at ~$200 p/n.

The Pullman Hyde Park (formerly Mariott) is across Hyde Park on College Street. Check rates on Accor website.

FYI, the Pullman Hyde Park has had mixed reviews here on AFF, but I had a good stay fairly recently so happy to +1 that recommendation. Not sure you will get it for $200 though.

Thanks guys, I'll plug the Pullman Hyde Park, Marriott and Sheraton on the Park into the booking system and see what is spat back out at me.

Unfortunately I don't see any way of getting into the Hyatt for our Sydney nightly allowance!!

Hi I agree with Boomy, the Shangri-La. Is a great choice the Club room and views are amazing
If you join their hotel program, think it's the Golden Circle, you get extra benefits .
If you walk down to Circular Quay, the walk back is a killer. Good luck

Managed to jag the Intercontinental for a tick over 220\ night. Going to use the VA Plat partner upgrade to get IHG Plat, and (hopefully) be able to get a jog in around Hyde Park once or twice.

Have you looked at getting the Ambassador membership, it gives you a few benefits including a welcome gift which is a bottle of wine in Sydney and a room upgrade.

I have heard of that program, but there seems to be two schools of thought
· Buy it before and hope that the system sweeps me into a different room; or
· Buy it at the desk, and see what the check-in person can do to sweeten the offer. I’m not holding out for much more than “what is says on the tin”, thinking that there’s ppl that have more upgrade pull staying there than I.

Any experience or stories about the upgrade potential? Booked a King Superior Cityside room- Does that go to a Eastern Harbour view Room?

Hi mykal. I'm no high flyer, but I joined the ambassador program in December 13,
since then every stay has been upgraded to the next category (I think you're right in
your assumption, about room upgrades at SydneyIC). Maybe I'm wrong but I
don't know how much more they'll sweeten the deal. It's really worth the initial
outlay. Good luck. I say bite the bullet

An Ambassador is guaranteed the next level up, buying at checkin can work and there is no real downside. I have had mine for a few years, I booked the lowest room and got upgraded to a harbor view high floor corner room week before last, it was a great stay. You also get the BOGO which kind of pays for the $200 spent anyway, as well as 5000 points. This year on renewal I paid $200, got 15000 points, BOGO and a 10% rebate on reward stays at all IC brands. As I am living in a hotel 7 out of 10 nights, it should prove good value.
