Heading to Sydney in late March 2015 for a World Cup cricket Sunday Day-Night match at the SCG.
i will travel up on Sunday morning or even Saturday (to make an outing of it) and will book an early Monday red eye to return to work in Melbourne.
My question is: WHEN should I try to make my QANTAS flight points booking to minimize cost and maximize seat choice?
i am a Silver FF with lots of points but only 20 status credits.
thanks in advance for your advice
regards

As it's so far away and only MEL-SYD, i'd say wait for a sale. They pop up pretty regularly. Or, wait for a Tiger sale and price-match on JQ. Can often get MEL-SYD for around $43 each way on JQ when TT has their deals.

+1. Book when there's a sale covering your dates.

I thought the OP was referring to 'points' booking i.e. Classic or JASA type.

If so, grab it once you have the dates fixed.

It may disappear altogether by the time you get around to do it.

Not as hot as SYD LAX but who knows !

Ah you're right, OP does say points.

Points will *never* get cheaper. Book when it's available (although i'd still just pay cash considering the tax component of a MEL-SYD fare can be around $45 alone, making it a relatively poor use of points).
