I needed to travel to Orlando next month and my usual Qantas flights were really expensive on my dates.
I saw that Fiji Airways had flight to LA via Nadi for $1100 so I booked.
Thinking that because Fiji Air is owned by Qantas, my platinum benefits would apply but I cant find any info on this???

I could see that I should be able to access the lounge in Nadi which is fine.
I was not able to select my own seats!
I cant find if I have additional baggage allowances. When I made the booking, I entered my FF details.
I have to take a fairly large, semi heavy surfboard coffin with me which will have 5x boards in it on my way home from LA. If I was flying Qantas, id have more than enough baggage allowance, especially with Platinum but with Fiji Air they only seem to give me ! piece at 23kg.

Does anyone know if my benefits apply???
Will I be able to work that magic at check in???

I had always thought to get the most value from flying them with QFF membership, you needed to book under a QF code, which could raise the price in your case, or not even be possible, not sure.

^ Lounge access eligibility is based on the class of travel, Qantas club membership or the Frequent Flyer Membership tier for your next onward flight.
+ Jetstar refers to Jetstar Airlines (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K), Valuair (VF) and Jetstar Japan (GK).
# A oneworld marketed flight refers to a flight with a oneworld flight number, eg QF1 or AA222. A oneworld operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly, eg Finnair aircraft.

** Valid in Qantas operated lounges branded as the Qantas Club or Qantas Lounge. It is not accepted in associated and partner lounges and the lounges in Los Angeles.

You wouldn't get any lounge QF lounge access in Australia, Fiji or the US if the flight has been booked as FJxx_ as FJ is not a member of the One World Alliance. For lounge access the flight would have to be booked as QFxx_ so on your FJ boarding pass it would have a printed comment 'sold as QFxx_'. If it doesn't have this comment the lounge staff would not grant you access.

If you are travelling in business class you would receive lounge access based on the cabin you're travelling in.

You could join Tabua Club and get lounge access that way, but rather expensive if only for a once off.

out of interest does the absence of these 2 words make any difference for platinum ?

I've had the situation at SIN. I arrived on a QF flight in the evening with an onward flight on 3K (Jetstar) early next morning (it was way less than 24 hours so even a legal transit). I was refused QF lounge access on arrival in SIN because the 3K flight was not the "same day". There was no 'same day' requirement in the rules at the time! Seems it's clarified now?

Have had the same experience with a CX flight ex SIN to BKK after arriving into SIN back when a flight arrived around midnight, was given a "one time exception", which I assume is a face saving gesture when someone realises they are to quite right.

You may not need the "sold as QFxx_" on the BP. I recently fly QF391 to Nadi, and the door keeper at the entrance to the 1st class lounge had a printout of eligible members. There was no "sold as QF391" on my BP, however she just consulted her list and let me in.

I'd print out my itinerary just in case.

You still need to be booked on the QF code...

Has anyone had any success using F check-in if on QF code?

No - because on code-shares you always have to check-in with the operating airline.

(Perhaps if the code-share and the operating airline both use the same check-in staff it might work - but that's not QF and FJ).

Still pick up an express pass?

So if I understand it correctly: To get to from SYD to LAX with FJ would this be the optimal way (flying J) ensuring SC earn:

#1: Booking via QF site ... SYD > NAN = earn QF SCs & QF points & access to QF Flounge (as a WP)
#2: Booking via FJ site ... NAN > LAX < NAN = earn QF SCs & points and access to Tabua lounge NAN
#3: Booking via FJ site ... NAN > SYD = earn QF SCs & QF points
(quoting QFFF# on all 3 separate bookings)

I presume in LAX the OWE status is useless as I'd be in possession of an FJ ticket. But flying in J, then whatever the lounge is used by FJ would then kick in.

So this seems like an very 'economical' way to the US in J and earning full SCs yet FJ are not a OW member whilst picking up some OWE benefits along he way. Nice stuff.

Almost there, have a look at two one ways for #1

My experience is similar to AnonymousCoward. Couple weeks back on FJ910/FJ915 I noted there being no "sold as QFxx_" on either of them, and they were most certainly purchased as the QF code share. In SYD at the FL on the way out I had no issues whatsoever, didn't even need to show my WP card to gain access.

On the return, presenting the BP and WP card I was granted access however I noted my name was not on the list (last 5 so times departing NAN my name/status was on the printout). The lounge attendant manually wrote down my details and no where on the BP did it say "sold as QFxx_".

Still pick up an express pass?

IIRC in SYD I've normally been handed an outbound express pass from the FJ check in counter but not the return. So on the way to immigration I'll normally swing past the QF Check in counter and ask for an inward express pass, explaining my situation. Not once have I been denied. Also not once have I received an inwards express pass from FJ in bound to SYD as a WP in Y (admittedly I've never asked for one).
