Don't some members know how to quote posts? Makes it confusing to follow.

I think some aren't aware of it.

Someone mentioned in a fleeting post that the iOS app made it difficult to quote or multi-quote, which I don't think should be the case, but anyway.

Quote and reply inline (i.e. splitting up a quoted post) is a bit of a pain on the mobile devices (but can be necessary to ease following longer posts).

I for one don't know an easy way to multi quote on the iOS app.

Princess Fiona recently mentioned (and I agree) that if there is a multi quote, it appears as though the first quoted person has done all the quoting & that might not be true.

The iOS App is useless for multi-quoting (always has been IMO) and the current version is even worse as multi-quotes are all attributed to the poster of first quote when posts are read in the App.
There should be a fix for this and hopefully it appears soon.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Not worth making a claim as our excess is $600.

Ouch. But have you checked that? There is no excess on claims if you only claim for spoiled goods. We are with SGIC.

The son's beers are cold anyway....

I dont multi quote anymore if I am using the App as it messes everything up. I like Princess Fiona's technical word for it - it is "borked" :p

Cove, where my son works they have misting machines so I can chase that up. Never thought of it.

I am at work now - I need internet access to do my work so usually can work from home. Currently flitting from desk to desk as various people arrive and leave. I guess that makes me homeless - or, a home without power. But at least everything is getting charged.

This is why Android is better - no such multi-quoting problems here ;) :p  (For those with Android, just tap each post in the sequence you want to quote them, then tap the multi-quote button that appears on the top right)

Jokes aside, that seems like a really odd bug. Let alone if the multi-quote works then why should it attribute to the first poster - this one I don't quite get. Do you mean, for example, say I attempted to multi-quote a post from you and erkpod, in that order. So my resulting post should look like:

Princess Fiona said:
The first post of multi-quote

erkpod said:
The second post of multi-quote

But it instead looks like:

Princess Fiona said:
The first post of multi-quote

Princess Fiona said:
The second post of multi-quote

If so, that's really odd, as the software should just be pulling off the full BB code of each post and inserting the appropriate BB code for the QUOTE tag. Can't be rocket science, especially if the base code remains the same between each platform implementation.

What it actually looks like is this:

And the app crashes frequently when trying to quote and reply :(

Correct. I've already been in trouble with the feature when someone multi-quoted me for things I didn't post. I am a little leery now.

I believe that is the technical parlance word for it, "borked" :p or "b0rked" :D

We discussed this in a recent Mod hook-up. I know nothing about IT so really don't know the answer - but we have had issues with attribution (Pushka and others) :o. To multi-quote I just post my reply with one quote, then go back to the next to the quoted, quote it and cut the quote out, cancel, go back to my post and insert; then repeat as necessary - yes, a very long winded way, but the only way I have worked out using iPhone.

Correct. I've already been in trouble with the feature when someone multi-quoted me for things I didn't post. I am a little leery now.

So it seems the flaw is cosmetic, i.e. I've correctly coded the multiple quotes in the post, but for some reason the software displays the wrong thing.

To be fair, I've just been reminded that the Android app does multi-quote correctly but when you view quoted text (i.e. using the QUOTE tag), the author of the quote is not displayed like in the iOS or desktop web versions.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Well that certainly explains it.

I still use the full version of the website when I use the smartphone.

I prefer the laptop any day of the week but the smartphone now that it is 4G gets a work out every now and then.

I was writing a reply to this post when it crashed several times. Also cannot tick a post as read in the column of unread posts.

Still crashing

I've also experienced problems with quoting long posts, editing out text from said long posts and scrolling in those posts in app. The last is particularly rubbish with it not showing the text that I was typing in a long post, just the too of the quoted post.

As for multi quote in the app. I find the most effective way is to

quote and reply to the last post first; select all; copy; discard post; quote/reply to second last post; paste previous reply at the bottom; select all; copy; etc.

This is better because you don't have to fiddle around trying to paste into the start of a post.

Behold an example for borked scrolling, where is the cursor? Off the bottom of the text box.

I am writing with no quote long reply and app crashes
