Using Lavatories in Flight not in your Cabin Class?

Re: WP treatment in Y

...

"Really" a seat on a plane is just a seat to be used while the plane is moving from A to B.

And a lavatory is just a lavatory. And a public one at that.

It's a shame my post was deleted.

I cannot remember the last time I used a lavatory I was not entitled to use on an international flight.

For domestic I dont care. The CSM on more than one occasion has mentioned to people up front in economy they can use front lavatory if they so wish. I will continue to ask to use the front lavatory whenever I feel like it. I think that is self explanatory and requires no further debate.

Now back to my original argument.

Occasionally I am a premium traveller. It doesn't matter how I got there. When I am travelling in a premium cabin I couldn't care less who is using the lavatory. I have more important things to worry about. Some people will get more than they are entitled to get. Most will have a valid reason. Some think rules don't apply to them. They are a minority not worth worrying about.

Re: WP treatment in Y

How many people have a 12 hour commute to work on a train?

Oh, and we have a lot of wet tram seats and it's only 11 km end to end. It is so frequent for us that all our carriages on train and trams have biological spill kits.

ok - that is totally gross!! :)

Re: WP treatment in Y

Being in Y makes you realize what it must have been like in a family of six or more with one toilet in a home. You form a queue and wait your turn.

Could you further elaborate your line of thought about the importance / relevance of the '12 hour commute' to the matter under discussion ?

I tried but failed to comprehend what you were attempting to say.

I do note that in hospital casualties - with its overcrowded waiting* rooms and multiple potential cases of GI problems - rarely did we see patients with wet pants by the time they are assessed.

Of course, if you need to attend casualties, you should not board a commercial flight either.

*: 4 hrs waiting on a busy night is rather the norm

Don't negate the possibility of broken J/f toilets requiring these pax using Y dunnies.... Wonder if the Y pax will revolt or say "youse wanna c--- in our dunnies, well youse can p--- off back to where youse came from...". Maybe the Y pax if smart can say. "1 use of our dunnies = 2 hours use of your seat maateee!!!!".

This thread is starting to remind me of the Abbott in Guv'ment show. [Waits discreetly for mod to censor...]

How about we agree that :-

1. You should at all times remain in your allocated cabin unless directed by an FA
2. Notwithstanding #1, it is permissable in an emergency to use the nearest facility (though putting on PJ's is NOT considered an emergency)
3. Regardless of which facility is used, you should leave it cleaner than when you arrived (but that does NOT entail removing any items)

Can we now move on to more interesting topics ..... like calling your boss a liar? [Tick, tick, tick ...]

agree with 1 and 3 but not with 2

I don't believe there is any emergency that comes so quickly, and so without warning, that it would not allow you to get to the WC in your ticketed cabin in time. (for evidence I proffer that I do not see people on trains (or in their cars) wetting seats, soiling their strides, or throwing up... they all manage, at the very least, to wait till they get to the next station... so they could therefore wait the same time on a plane :))

Be grateful for your bladder of steel, and may it outlast you! But I have had to get off trains or stop a taxi to use a toilet, and have once seriously begun to check out the vomit bag for capacity. Fortunately I didn't have to go through with it, but I have on a couple of occasions had to self-upgrade to the J toilet. I assure you it wasn't done under any sort of entitlement fantasy, and I always seek assent if possible.

I stand by #2 - maybe you could change your mindset about "interlopers" by looking at them as Y refugees rather than terrorists. Then again .... maybe not.

lol... noooo... they're like 'walkers' from the Walking Dead!!* :D

*sweet little old ladies and those with special needs excepted.

I can't believe this topic has gone on for this long.

It does not worry me who uses what toilets, as long as I personally am not seriously inconvenienced (boom tish!) I agree that whoever uses them should leave them clean.

Otherwise, I am coming slowly to the conclusion that there is a degree of paranoia here.

Re: WP treatment in Y

You missed post #2

Nothing worse than those entitled front of the plane types coming down to use the Y toilet.

Paranoia ?

Next time on board would you please ask the CSM if you could have a walk into the F cabin (from Y) just to "have a look around" and see what he/she will say, let alone a request to use the F loo ?

You are not even allowed to bring a guest into the F cabin - in most cases.

Certainly my requests were politely declined as "F cabin is only for F ticket holders".

That's not paranoia; It is simple cabin privileges as you had purchased the exclusive access to them.

Have you wondered what the inter-cabin curtains / ropes are for ?

I think pax should not use toilets in higher class cabins unless instructed otherwise by the crew.
Sometimes, on Dom 737 flights, J is almost empty and the CSM leaves the curtain open and invite pax sitting in rows 4 & 5 to use the toilet in J.
I suppose it can be seen as WP/P1 treatment it Y and it's OK if initiated by the CSM.

Re: WP treatment in Y

And how could I forget this gem from a couple of years ago.

The "Alan Davies in J using the First Class Toilet" debacle ;)

Now we know the official line from QF regarding the 'curtain/rope' exclusion.

Just as we should expect some others to understand.

They may not 'care' or be 'bothered' but others are and as it is, QF also agrees that loo grabbers should desist.

Thank PF for digging that up.

A Qantas Experience - A Qantas Experience

The "Alan Davies in J using the First Class Toilet" debacle ;)

unfortunately i cringed while reading that as you could just feel the escalating tension. The passenger didn't behave like an angel, but the crew should be trained to diffuse that.

the bigger issue - and this is something i have reported on for a long time now - is the inconsistency of the crew. Some of them are real shockers. And an incident like that really does make you feel miserable and wonder why you chose to fly Qantas.

That the purser could not believe their crew was capable of such as thing is equally burying their head in the sand.

To be fair the passenger has a history of behaving like a complete tosser
