Aussie passports no smart gate as 1 pax underage.
QFint to QFDom. So it does not matter if one PNR or not. If late Qf will rebook.

Im just trying to avoid all that..

Ill book 1300

You mentioned earlier you could not use it as you had an under 18, its under 16 that you cannot use it.

The express lane is always there, however it builds up quickly during peak times. It's distinct from the crew lane and not (usually) meant to merge.

SmartGate can be used by Australian passport holders 10 years or older with an adult to look after them. Signage and website have yet to be updated on this but they will be accepted.

There is not a queue for these all the time, however, they do operate, generally only in really busy periods such as mornings.

The last time I used one was in August - to the far right side as you approach the immigration counters. Only issue was that it merged with the Aircrew lane who had priority - a pain when a group of 20 or so come through all at once.

(The smart-gate corral to the left may have had 200 people milling around.)

So do I aim for the Smart Gate or Express Lane?

You'll see on approach. SmartGate is on the left, and the Express entrance is next to it.

I've been fortunate that i've never had to queue in around 30-40 uses of them, just queue to get out of the baggage hall.

As indicated, in August last year, the express entrance was to the far right.

Since the renovations were completed, Smart-gate takes up everything to the left wall.

Having posted that the eXpress can be anywhere they choose to designate it, just by moving the signs.

Sorry, having a blonde moment, I go through Smart Gate then Express Lane?

You should be fine but if delays get in the way, QF will rebook you onto the next flight even if you're on the cheapest fare IME.

Seems optimistic...

Is that a standard benefit of flying QF-QF even on separate PNR's or is that because of status? I ask as I have to book a connecting dom flight to MEL after qf6, and would like to know the safest & quickest way to do so in other peoples experiences.
Thanks!

Thanks!

I was thinking of bookings under the one PNR.

If they're on separate bookings, I think it may be possible to 'link' (by adding 'To Complete Party') bookings by calling QF to protect you in the event if delays (as long as it's a legal collection)? I don't have direct experience of this though. Someone else will correct me here...

Linking is informtion only and will not give you formal protection on seperate reservations/PNRs due to a delayed incoming flight. However it is not unknown for QF be accomadating in this situation. Has happened to me.
