Not a bad idea IMHO but I have learnt more "secrets" simply by going to the social events which I would encourage everybody to attend, if not always at least sometimes.

Absolutely. The social events are a great opportunity to learn a few tricks of the trade but they are much, much more. Thanks to getting out from behind the keyboard (or iPhone in my case) I now have a big network of contacts across Australia (and even the globe) and my travel experiences are all the richer for it

Are there ever meets in Hobart?

We poor Tasmanians are always left out of the secrets!

Dale.

There was a gathering at the end of last year for a whole weekend ;)

As for meets, you're more than welcome to organise one yourself, as is any member, then you just have to hope other members participate.

When I organised my first (and only...so far) I doubted that I would get 7 members. 14 members later I was unfortunately having to turn people away.

I am already thinking about my next 2 events.

Give it a go Dale, give it a go.

I think I joined AFF just after that forum post was made so missed out on it.

I upgraded to be a Gold member so hopefully we get an email notification of such an annual gathering?

Where is the one at the end of this yeargoing to be?

I have now subscribed to that forum and will keep an eye out on things.

Thanks.

A couple of social gatherings with AFF profoundly changed our lives.
I was always very into frequent flyer points from the 1970s and lots of things change over the years.
2014 has started where I find I use my Australian Amex much less and my US Amex much more.
Reading lots has helped us travel for beer cost but in champagne style and while there are a number of secrets I do think sharing ideas is helpful both ways.
I don't think members only is really necessary and I have appreciated the generous AFF members who have improved our travelling style in Australia and overseas.

Yes we lived in the US for a year in 1984 so we both have Social Security cards emblazoned with "not valid for employment".

I'm for the negative.

If you invest the time you can find the secrets in the posts:idea: I've been to one AFF dinner and one QF event where there were other AFF's attending.

I also think it's important that members give back to AFF community via TR's etc......it's not a one way street!

Invest the time - get the rewards!
