Using Lavatories in Flight not in your Cabin Class?

Re: WP treatment in Y

Nah. I've got nothing. I still don't see how someone using the premium lavatories is an issue that should concern me.

If I saw someone trying to move into a cabin they didn't belong in then that's a different story.

IMHO If a J PAX comes downstairs in the A380 to use one of the two F toilets then that's as good as going into a cabin they don't belong in.

With you there - the fact that they don't stay doesn't mean they haven't moved into a cabin where they don't belong in order to appropriate conditions they haven't paid for. When it comes to domestic J don't really care, but do on international. Unfortunately there will always be a small no of people who feel they are entitled to whatever extra they can wangle....

Apologies Princess but we are not going to agree. I am quite happy to remain in the minority that feels we are being way too precious with something such as the use of a lavatory.

That being said I would hate it if any stranger used the bathroom in my apartment.

ok - example.

QF flight last year... I woke up and went to use the WC - both lavatories occupied by business class pax.

Normally I could do this on 'auto-pilot' - get up, use facilities and head straight back to bed and sleep. This time I had to wait around and basically 'woke up' - i couldn't get back to sleep (not helped by being peeved at the J class pax).

doesn't seem entirely fair?

Re: WP treatment in Y

ok, I'll bite on this one :)

why is it that people feel the need to suddenly visit the WC in a higher cabin when service carts are in the aisle in their cabin?

Bladder control? I wish I had that under control better than I do now. Just when you think you don't need to go that urge arrives and will not go away.

Sleeping in economy is much easier.

What did the staff say (assuming you told them)?

WP treatment in Y

I beg to disagree over the word 'precious'.

Sitting in a premium cabin requires some commitment / sacrifice from you in terms of $$ and/or points, not to mention lots of planning on occasions.

That BP gives you the right to to turn left (matter of speaking) while others are DIRECTED to go elsewhere

That turn then gives you exclusive access to your seats, cabin and with it, the lavs and perhaps the onboard lounge.

That exclusiveness includes the minimal / nil waiting and perhaps a bigger area to get changed (or on EK, a shower).

I'd consider any intrusion into those areas a form of trespass where you are pinching to enjoy what you are not entitled to.

What's next ?

See an empty J seat: I will sit down for a few minutes until I am noticed ???

Pop into the F / J lounge (say on EK) and ask for a Bloody Mary because I feel like it due to my WP specialness ???

What irked me when I saw that chap was the nonchalance he had when walking past the bulkhead into PE heading for the loo, as if he belonged there.

People, WP does not mean the airline owes you everything on the plane !!!

Pay for Y (or J), and please stay where you ASKED to be.

Until your BP says 'any loo' access !

Ps: was correct with memory about amaroo's sighting !

Re: WP treatment in Y

Imagine that one day you are busting to go to the loo, perhaps incontinent or ill or pregnant, and all the toilets are busy and someone prevents you using a loo beyond your ticket until you embarrass yourself!

When nature calls it calls, and I think someone's dignity is slightly more important than your sleep or ego.

Stealing a seat and conditions is one thing, using a loo is something altogether different, very basic and primal.

Does that basic need include changing out of PJ's?

No they don't. I have lost count of the number of times I have got into a taxi for a long trip only to want to go the toilet 10-15 later.

We are humans. We are not robots....

Anyone can find extreme circumstances where any decent person would accept the use of toilets in any class. I doubt that the examples being given here fall into those circumstances. There are 4 reasons I pay quite a large premium to fly F

1. Better food and bubbly
2. Better ratios of passengers to toilets
3. Nicer bed
4. Faster service

If I lose point 2 then I have lost 25% of the benefit. Not insignificant....

clearly elderly and disabled should be able to use the WC closest to them. that makes sense.

if you are a platinum in economy and young(ish) and suffer from incontinence... how about getting a seat in the last row of a 737 instead of row 4 (and needing to use the front lavatory?)

the question was asked 'where does it stop' - well where does it stop? a platinum may already ask for premium headsets, wines, champagne, PJs, amenity kits and an expresso. If you have all of that, a shadow, and use of business class WCs... why would they fork out for a premium fare?

Indeed

The avarice of a few threatens the interests of the rest.

The occasional courtesy of a glass of champaign is escalated to an expectation which then includes a NC headphone, PJ, a cup of expresso .... and now, unrestrained access to premium loos.

Robbi,

My initial observation plus others' do not suggest any cases of extremis, rather the opposite.

Enjoying a cup of expresso in fine china followed by a saunter to the PE loo while paying for / sitting in a Y seat: is that a case that would fit into your compassionate range ?

Re: WP treatment in Y

completely disagree with JohnK on this one (nothing new here).

The passenger paying the most (whether cash or pointS) should have exclusive access to the toilets allocated to their cabin. Agree it is basically the same as a Y pax moving into the J cabin and occupying a vacant seat whenever they wish.

Re: WP treatment in Y

I was in the situation of requiring an urgent use of a lav after an extended period of seat-belt on and heavy turbulence. I was in Emerald City on an A380, and as soon as the seatbelt sign went out, people bolted out of their seats to use the facilities. After almost 4-5 minutes of waiting, I quietly asked an FA if I could use the F facilities down the stairs, and was escorted downstairs to explain to an FA who was down there.

I guess I just prefer to ask than waltz down, but it was an urgent situation or I would not have asked in the first place.

Still, this is getting Waaaaaaaay off topic (WP in J using F lavs is not WP treatment in Y).
