Fly into LAX on Wednesday at 1.30pm. Leaving on QF94 Thursday night. I am contemplating staying in TBIT for this time and not booking a hotel... (I'm only 21 yrs old so should survive? ;)

Just want to ask now that the TBIT reno has been done are the still shops and restaurants before security that i can live off? Also are there any areas that are better to sleep in?

Cheers gogo

You'd go insane! With Venice Beach, Santa Monica and a range of other areas 15-20 mins away at the most, get out of TBIT!

Not a chance, especially if you don't have lounge access.

It is a quick trip to Santa Monica, in n out. Although in that time you could easily get to hollywood even to universal studios!

Any movie director following you around to document your withering away ?

Never been any any similar situation but I have to agree with the others.
You have just flown in from somewhere so spent 2-3 hours traveling and in transit already, you then want to spend 34 hours in a terminal followed by another 14 hours in a metal tube.
Sounds Crazy man. Assume you are in Y? I never really sleep on planes.
I used to do 36 - 40 hour back at uni around assignment time. Killed me man. Would spend days recovering.
At least get out and see something the outside world. You want to eat airplane and airport food (which is over priced) for 2 days, sound bad man.
But if you do end up doing it good on you. Let us know how it goes.

sounds like we a filming a doco?????

No I'm not filming a doco. Just would rather save my last few hundred USD for the next trip. I have slept in LAS for 9 hours before.. Which wasn't too bad.. ;) Planning to go for a walk outside the airport complex and head to westchester.. Anyway see how we go i might book something last minute.. Will keep you posted on what i decide.

Uhmm showers? just spare a thought for fellow passengers!

Don't worry i'll be going straight to the F Lounge once i can check in and dump my snowboard.

I have seen everything i want to in Los Angeles.. It will force me to read a couple of books. :)

Be aware that thare not that much "walkable" from LAX.

Since you have lounge access, it would be easier for you.

In your shoes, I'd have booked an AA flight to SFO (or somewhere else cheap with a good A/C) and maxed my lounge opportunities.

I've spent long waits at TBIT 12hrs+ and in T3....I'd book a room at Hacienda with late checkout and they store luggage...they have return shuttle free(if you don't tip) there you can WALK to a shopping complex to pick up any last minute Best BUY(Buy as many Chromecast as you can and sell them back here to pay for your hotel cost...ebay/gumtree) or clothes. Mc Donalds just up the road from hotel. The issue is your luggage that you will have to hold onto until Thursday. As stated you could try public transport(that could take longer than you have ;)/taxi to the beach) If you can time your stay with an Amazon delivery you could make more money from your hotel stay.

I'm with others, get out of LAX and go do something. After 34 hours you will be stir crazy. You prob won't be allowed to check in for your next flight until the day of departure, which means that at best you'll get a raised eyebrow, assuming that you are allowed to even be air side (since in the US they don't like airside pax without boarding passes), plus assuming you are allowed airside, you prob won't be allowed into the lounge until the day of departure.

With that sort of time, you could easily go out and spend a day seeing LA, and it is certainly possible to do so on the cheap.

There are dozens of hotels in the vicinity that you can get on Priceline for around $50 with comp shuttle. You'd spend that amount on food and beverage in that amount of time.

BoyZeus makes an excellent point. Get out of TBIT, get a cheap room. From what I remember of TBIT there really isn't anything much before security and you'll have an awful lot of time you'll need to fill there. Sleeping? Forget it. Get out. Eat cheaply. Have a proper shower, sleep in a proper bed and change your clothes. Get some sunshine. Read those books in peace and quiet, maybe even by a pool. You'll feel so much better for it.

Landside at TBIT there are a few small DF shops and a couple of fast food places, after the first hour you'd have done everything TBIT pre-security has to offer.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Haven't seen it since the reno, but I wouldn't have thought there would be any reason to embiggen the landside offerings.

I was last there just before the reno was completed, all the work was airside (where is was vital), no landside work was happening from what I could tell.
