Three separate cards and three attempts. All failed. The "service" centre is, IME, hopeless. They refer me to technical support and then nothing.....ever. When I call to enquire about progress, after ten days of deafening silence, I am told to "wait my turn"! That's an exact quote!
Result = all three cards in the bin!

- We recommend that you don’t use the Qantas Card for deposits, for example for hotel pre-authorisations, because this can tie up valuable funds for weeks. Instead, use a credit card if possible and then make payment with Qantas Cash.
It may be worth paying attention to this tip (also pointed out by ric_melb):
Travel Card Tips | Advice on Using Your Qantas Cash
Can I ask why people don't just use their bank's Visa/MasterCard debit card? The rates are better than this card.
As for hotel pre-auths, many do not accept debit or prepaid cards. This is for the obvious reason that they can't charge it if you trash the room or skip the bill.
Domestically there are no fees, but you earn points, something other debit cards don't do.
Overseas I meant, which was apparently the main purpose of the card...
When do the Qantas Cash Card QFF points enter your account? I've used mine for a week or two now and have not noticed any points in my account. I assume 30 days? I couldn't find any info on the Qantas Cash website.
Mine come in on the 11th of every month (few days later if it's a weekend).
I've been using the card as I can't get an Australian CC yet.
Is the day the points arrive each month the same day you activated the card?
Mine was activated on 20th Dec and there are no points yet, should I be expecting some tomorrow?
I can't remember what date I signed up, but sometimes the points arrive late with a backdated transfer date. They'll get there. Latest was about 5 days.
Has anyone had problem with their Qantas cash card using the wrong currency? I had A$, S$, and Euro in my card. I used the card in Singapore and it used the S$ credit. But when I was in Germany earlier this month, some purchases used the Euro but some others used the A$ credit (even though there were enough Euro in there). And of course I was slugged with the corresponding exchange fees, which defeats the whole purpose of the damn card.
I suspect that this problem is related to how some EFTPOS machines know the country of origin of the card. How many times have you been offered to pay in AUD or the local currency?
The Op is still being charged in local currency, I thought if DCC but would have expected the AUD not to have fees etc.
