You have to be prepared to book within a short period of flying.

We've re-deemed quite a few F flights on BA......particular when they flew SYD-BKK-SYD.

They are often the only option on AA, pity about the fuel fines.

We will be fully retired in June, so last minute trips are fine - we don't have any particular time frame ( apart from wanting a warm break sometime between May and November)

As self-funded travellers for all international travel, flying J is a cost we often pay (and it is no small amount) to have an improved experience and better "product". The continued downgrading of J just makes it harder to justify flying QF at the premium charged. This thread is just another in many on this board highlighting yet further cheapening of what I receive for my hard-earned dollars. Have been part of the QFF program for many many years and it looks like it may be coming to an end. I have been using up points and we will look at other carriers. Sad but I think I have had enough.

maybe a time for a change :) there are lots of very competitive business class products out there and for some seriously good prices once you leave from Asia. $1800 return to Europe with full flat beds on Sri Lankan Airlines including car service at your destination (and you'll still get qantas points and SCs). $2000 Qatar airways business class fares ex Bali. Not to mention a raft of frequent flyer programs selling cheap miles with direct business and first class flights for less than the price of Qantas premium (sometimes even TWO business class tickets for the price of ONE qantas premium economy ticket).

Qantas will keep chipping away at the service until there are no more complaints - largely because there are no more customers. The airline will then resemble Jetstar to the extent that the two will be merged.

Yep! Customers will continue to slowly move away from QF towards JQ, VA, EK, SQ and others, to the point that QF is merged into JQ

Again, QF Group need to do something with all those A320's they have ordered...

They have, they park them, its not unusual to see 3-4 in the standoff bays at SIN doing nothing, no to mention those in Japan and France.

first QF J sector in awhile yesterday - catering is now decidedly non-premium

ie

-not enough small/main plates loaded for each pax - had run out of 2 main plate choices by second row in first pass of order-taking

-no pre-arrival refreshment - offering the snack bar fruit with drinks is not a separate meal as this should be

-'dine as you like throughout your flight' - sorry no, got told my second main plate would be thrown away as I didn't want it immediately after my first (im sure the crew enjoyed it) would have preferred to save it for the refreshment

-beer selection enhanced so that the same selection offered in J as in Y (in this case Hahn Super Dry and James Boags)

-service speed continues to grate, 2 hours in before the small plates came out is not acceptable especially given crew are not visible in the cabin but congregating in the galleys chatting and watching their colleagues do the prep (this was at meal time).

<sigh> Qantas... what are you doing? I fear the end is near.

Wow, for an airline that prides itself on some of the best food in the sky, this is a pretty pathetic performance. Now they're screwing over J pax, the sound of the death knell is thunderous...

I would recommend complaining to QF and asking for a credit.

having a defined second refreshment service in J should be part of the menu on J on AUS- Asia. Economy gets one!

As posted in the " tale of two brekkies " maybe it is time that J pax started to request meals from Y !!!! This is really becoming a complete joke.

Either using points or paying to fly J, pax are entitled to be served a choice of meals and definitely a 2nd meal after a flight from SYD - HKG
