Yes, that's my reading. If you book a QF ticket, on QF metal (eg QF1/2), never think of or see or care about "EK", the cost will go up, except on flights where there is no EK code share.

From the article in the OP:

Qantas says the changes reflect "continued high fuel costs and a lower Australian dollar" and are part of the "ongoing alignment with Emirates".

Given that other QFi flights have the charge unchanged, hard to see them arguing with a straight face that its due to cost of fuel / FX to ANY degree. One A380 fueling up at SYD for DXB seems to have a higher fuel cost than the one next to it, heading for LAX. Sure :evil:

No that ain't the worst of it. An A330 fueling up at SYD for CGK seems to have a higher fuel cost than the A380 next to it, heading for DXB. Sure. Distance of the two flights: 3430 miles and 7480 miles respectively.

Increases to international fuel surcharges on Qantas and Emirates services to Europe, the UK, North Africa and the Middle East will vary by cabin and apply as follows:

• Economy - $15
• Premium Economy - $30
• Business/First - $45

There are no changes to the fuel surcharge for Qantas and Emirates trans-Tasman and Asia services. Fuel surcharge levels for bookings on other parts of the Qantas international network – such as flights to the Americas or South Africa – remain unchanged.

We mitigate the impact of record high fuel costs in several ways – including fuel surcharges, hedging and price increases. We regularly review our fuel surcharges policy across our international network, as well as in alignment with Emirates as part of our partnership, and will consider further changes to the fuel surcharge policy as appropriate. While fuel contracts, hedging and the like may be medium to long term, at the risk of being simplistic is not it time with oil prices continuing to be 'under pressure' as Latest & Breaking News Melbourne, Victoria | The Age put it today that QF and others lower their fuel surcharges or even abolish them?

Of course they'd be cancelling a nice little earner, but they might just stimulate travel to an even greater degree than the lost revenue due to reducing or abolishing these fuel surcharges.

Haha. Funniest comment I've read in ages. Drop fuel surcharges when price of fuel goes down. Hilarious. ;-)

Changing fuel surcharges may only stimulate demand for awards and that is tightly controlled anyway. Dropping fuel surcharges will have no impact on the entry level commercial fares these are set already based on supply and demand including the surcharge - except for the fares at the more inelastic end of the market anyway.
