Return trip cheaper then one way - Emirates - Dubai to Prague.

So I am traveling to Dubai in May and from there heading to Prague.

A one way flight for 2 to Prague with Emirates is 6000 AED while a return trip on the same flight is 4530 AED.

So would it be wrong to book the return trip and then just do a no show for my return leg? What can Emirates do? Will they charge my credit card with a cancelation fee or anything??

Probably best to read the T&C in detail. From what I have read over the years (e.g. no actual experience myself) the airlines are within their rights to come back at you. Usually results in people losing FF status, etc - BUT people's experience is that if you don't do this often then there is no issue. Just make sure it is your last segment on that ticket, and not mid ticket.

I have no idea how any penalties could be enforced because people miss flights all the time. Even just for a simple traffic jam.

It would be the only segment.

Its so annoying that its the only direct flight out of Dubai to Prague and that if I wanted to put up with a stop over somewhere else in Europe, I would be able to get several cheaper flights with other airlines.

I have emailed Emirates to try my luck at seeing if they will match the price for a one way trip. I am not holding my breath.

Just book the return flight and dont turn up to the second flight. Emirates won't do anything at all. No airline does.

You didn't email emirates with your name etc did you? If you did I would not be dumping the final leg of the ticket, they now have evidence that you only wanted to go one way. You would of been better with the 'sick' 'traffic jam' 'flat tyre' options.

Normally such fees are for when you are trying to reuse some of remaining credit, rather than simply abandoning the journey altogether - you get a value less that $250.

While airlines reserve the right to make an "additional collection" in such no-show for the return circumstances, that is basically a legacy from last century when almost all bookings were done through travel agents. (Easier to assess a fee on an Agents commission making them a 'debt collector' on the airlines behalf than trying to directly ping a customer.)

I have not come across a report of an "Additional Collection" anywhere in the last 15+ years.

Even if they did charge the 'No-Show' Fee, I would still be saving around $250 on the one way fare.

Also they don't seem to mention a 'Cancellation', they only state a 'Change' or 'No-Show' fee.

With that, I would suggest you would be fine - the USD250 would only come into if you tried to use any remaining value after no-showing.
