How far will they push CD for F pax?

We arrive into MEL at 9am today week on QF J and depart MEL for LHR at 4pm on QF F.

Given that will have us in Mel for around 7 hours, does anyone think that QF would be amicable towards sending us into the city and return using CD for 3 or 4 hours.

We want to make the most of the lounge, however our thoughts are to check in as far as Mel, check in at the Mel First Suite and leave our carry on with them, take a car into the city for Breaky and a spot of shopping and back at the terminal ready for lunch.

What do you all think?

Thank you kindly!

Have you tried making the bookings for both in MMB?
Otherwise calling and asking if the above can't be done won't hurt.

IME the bookings are all via the web site. If on the same PNR you will be offered CD to the airport for the first leg (from home). If separate PNRs you could book a CD pickup from somewhere in town (after taking the Skybus from the airport earlier in the day). Not sure what you could do with your carry-on bag though. Maybe they would do more for an "F" passenger than a humble "J"...

The booking engine doesn't give me an option as it is DRW-SYD-MEL.

Anecdotal evidence from the forum has indicated the the FLounge will look after carry on for pax wanting to shop. Unsure as to whether the F Suite will be as obliging.

I am hoping that the F Host makes contact but I am thinking maybe calling tomorrow to check things out... Worth it?

Has anyone called for CD or just via the booking engine?

Also, to clarify, the engine is up and going again and I have the MEL-LHR CD option available, so only looking for a drop off to the city now and hopefully baggage acceptance/storage...

Gets me thinking actually, will they accept my checked baggage?
